Roles and Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Principal Process Systems Engineer within our Process Gas and Product line team located at our office in Allentown, PA or Houston, Texas. This position requires up to 25 % domestic / global travel.

The Process Systems Engineers in the Process Gas Product Line provide engineering support for new projects, opportunities, and products. The backbone of the role starts with development and stewardship of P&ID's, leading operability reviews for new opportunities, development of plant operational logic, participation in hazard reviews and participation in 3D model reviews. This person is a key member of a project team and is responsible for driving the work process with a multi-disciplined project team.

Required Skills / Abilities:
  • Deliver all objectives safely and achieve 100% compliance with safety requirements.
  • Support bid/proposal work by developing the P&IDs for new projects and opportunities. Ensure that P&IDs are produced in accordance with company standards/procedures and any customer specific requirements
  • Develop functional logic tables, permissive start tables, shutdown table, alarm and trip settings and critical safety systems;
  • Participated in the PFD, operability, and hazard reviews and other safety evaluations (SIL, Fault Tree Analysis, etc.)
  • Work with process engineers, controls engineers, safety engineers, operations SPOCs, and project or proposal managers to ensure functional alignment in engineering and design during proposal or project development;
  • Develop P&IDs Functional Execution Strategy;
  • Develop and support customer battery limit table interface, tie points and interface hazard reviews;
  • Develop process systems manhour estimated for the project;
  • Support product development efforts by developing generic P&IDs that can be reused for competitive offering;
  • Lead and provide feedback into the plant design by reviewing the 3D piping model and overall facility arrangement (Plot Plan)
  • Participate in the DCS (Distributed Control System ) Factory Acceptance Test and Site Acceptance Test;
  • Participate and help plan field-commissioning activities including Operational Readiness Inspections (i.e. plant pre-startup check / review) and Plant Start-Ups, as well assist with the development of reliability test plans
Education and Licensing Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in chemical engineering or equivalent
  • A minimum of 10 years' work experience for an industrial gas company or an EPC firm, with a strong focus on P&ID development during feasibility studies, conceptual design, and detail design
  • A balance multi-discipline understanding in Process System Engineering or plant process engineering with focus on P&IDs development
  • Proven ability to make balanced decisions weighing operability, reliability, capital costs and operation costs;
  • Previous experience with SMR (Steam Methane Reforming), ATR (Autothermal Reforming), Ammonia, and methanol synthesis processes is a plus;
  • Previous experience with Green and Blue Hydrogen technology areas is a strong plus;
  • Use of tools such as Bluebeam, Smart Plant PID, Smart Plant 3D Review, and Adobe is a plus
