ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

Purpose

As a senior member of the finance team, your most important role will be to set an example for other team members with your person-centered approach to finance; realizing that every task we undertake ultimately leads back to supporting people and ensuring their needs are met. Supporting and protecting their financial interests and advocating for their right to choose is essential. Your primary role will be responsibility for administration of all individual funds, to monitor all revenue activities for the agency, and to ensure accuracy and compliance with revenue recognition standards. Also, to assist the Controller and CFO in maintaining internal control processes relating to revenue.

Status: Exempt

Responsible To: Controller/CFO

Essential Functions:

  • Oversees daily financial operations regarding individual funds and operates in a person-centered manner in all tasks.
  • Monitor General Ledger for accuracy of revenue postings for all Agency programs.

Essential Functions (continued):

  • Completes procedures timely and accurately for accounting period close.
  • Participates in the preparation of the annual Consolidated Fiscal Report (CFR).
  • Responsible for accounting related to Environmental Modification/VMOD programs.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Assist with and coordinate year end audit and any internal audits.
  • Supervises financial staff and plays a key role in selecting, orienting, and training.
  • Maintains accounting software systems and evaluates new systems. 
  • Provides oversight for chart of accounts.
  • Mentors employees through coaching, advising and directing.
  • Drives optimum performance with careful planning, monitoring and follow up.
  • Promotes a sound internal control environment.
  • Mitigates Agency risk by helping to establish, monitor, and enforce policies and procedures.
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing financial information and trends.
  • Effectively communicate and present the critical financial matters to the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Leadership Team, and the Board of Directors.
  • Prepares other financial reports and assists with budget creation as needed.

Other duties:

  • Any and all other duties as assigned.
  • Attend professional meetings.
  • Committee membership as assigned.

Requirements

 Qualifications:· Bachelor’s degree in accounting required with five years of relevant experience.· Two years supervisory experience.

  • Knowledge and familiarity with pertinent State and Federal laws/regulations pertinent to not-for-profit corporations, revenue, expenditures and internal revenue.
  • Knowledge of Medicaid rules and regulations regarding administration of individual funds.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain General Ledger, post adjustments, and identify possible misstatements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and knowledge of General Ledger software.
  • Highly organized with strong time management and analytical skills with the ability to work independently. 
  • Strong communication and team building skills.
  • Ability to present numerical data effectively, and to interpret written information.
  • Proof of valid NYS Driver’s License with appropriate insurance

Physical/Cognitive Requirements:

  • Ability to remain calm in stressful or demanding situations.
  • Sitting and/or computer use for extended periods of time.
  • Bending, reaching, pushing, pulling as needed in the workplace - must be able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds.
  • Demonstrated interest and ability to facilitate the personal outcomes of the individuals receiving services through personnel and training oversight.
