Role Description:

  • Full Time | Monday-Friday
  • Hours: 8:00 A.M-4:00 P.M

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Teacher-Coverage/Floater

  • Provide certified coverage as needed (vacancies; Medical Leave (FMLA); Education and Other Leaves; absences; and break coverage).

IEP Coordinator

  • Elicit referrals for students in need of placement through outreach to Central Based Support Team.
  • Act as liaison with CSE teams for students in need of special education programs.
  • Act as member of school-based team during screenings of incoming students for placement and planning.
  • Access outside evaluation materials; review assessments for completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Review the student’s current developmental profile to ensure appropriate placement recommendations; ensure that goals are appropriate and current.
  • Conduct observations to assess student’s ability to interact and perform; identify individual student needs to participate in the least restrictive environment.
  • Monitor educational programming; ensure staff is knowledgeable regarding responsibilities related to implementation of the IEP; ensure pre- and post-assessment of students’ development; collect and review progress reports for IEP updates and annual review as per the specifications and time lines mandated in SED regulations and DOE contracts.
  • Participate in the development of IEPs to ensure completeness and appropriateness and attend parent conferences and CSE Reviews as needed.

Curriculum Coordinator

  • Meet regularly with School Principal and classroom staff to assess, develop, adapt and implement a New York State Prekindergarten Foundation for the Common Core or NYS Common Core Standards Learning based curriculum informed by authentic assessment data which advance school readiness and/or academic goals.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on curriculum projects and materials that have a direct impact on meeting students’ learning needs.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on alternate instructional strategies that guide students toward exploration, decision making, autonomy and initiative.
  • Provide teaching staff with support in developing lessons, planning instruction and classroom management.
  • Provide direct classroom support in the implementation of methodologies and approaches.
  • Work individually and collectively with teaching staff to ensure they are properly trained; support the professional development of staff by presenting workshops in effective content area instructional practices.
  • Under the guidance and direction of the Principal, order appropriate classroom materials and equipment and keep inventory of same; monitor the ways in which teachers use the materials in the classroom.

Salary: $78,000-$78,197 (Annual)

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • NY State Certification in Special Education required; minimum five years of experience as teacher of students with disabilities; School Based Leader Certification preferred but not required.
  • Proven ability to provide expert coaching to staff on an individual or group level, based on ongoing and current knowledge of theory, research and best practices in the field of developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders.
  • Demonstrated success in communicating effectively and in establishing and maintaining relationships with broad base of constituents, including colleagues, teaching staff, individuals, family members, and external professional staff. This includes ability to present verbal information simply and concisely, to demonstrate effective public speaking presence, to be a skilled listener, and to demonstrate excellent writing skills.
