NGC Technician is an integral part of an operational team responsible for the safe and efficient operation of its two key processes. Technicians are primarily dedicated to either the Spunbond or Film line. The scope of job includes all steps in production from raw material through to finished product. Technicians are responsible for monitoring product quality and the routine maintenance of the production lines

QUALIFICATIONS


Education: High School or GED equivalent, 2 years college preferred.

Experience:

  • Several years working in an industrial environment. Technical operating experience in a team environment preferred.
  • Experience in spunbond, film, or other extrusion based processes preferred.
  • Leadership skills and strong desire to learn.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Forklift operation.

Special Qualifications:

  • Able to make decisions without precedence – contact supervision on unusual situations.
  • Able to perform basic math functions as well as read and write English.
  • Ability to work a rotating-shift work schedule.
  • Manual handling up to 50 lbs.
  • High manual dexterity, close sustained visual attention.
  • Constant alertness; able to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Continuous exposure to extreme heat. Protective equipment required.
  • Possess a minimum corrected vision of 20/40. Vision to be checked every 2 years with records to reside in the Medical Dept.
  • Able to climb catwalks and obstructed walkways when necessary to set up the machine in accordance with the instructions contained in the setting card.

Essential Functions:

  • Able to work in and promote a team environment.
  • Communicate effectively with Team members and counterparts on other crews.
  • Responsible for own safety and health and ensures that his/her actions will not jeopardize the safety and health of other employees.
  • Participate as a representative in the CRS.
  • Follow written or verbal instructions. Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Develop skills to a minimum of Technician Level II status.
  • Participate in the development of documentation associated with the TPP.
  • Familiar and compliant with the Site Emergency Action Plan and Fire Alarm Action Procedures.
  • Understands and complies with the general, departmental, and job specific safety rules, as well as the Site Safety Plan at Ahlstrom. Completes all Lock-Out/Tag-Out and confined space procedures, including proper entrance procedures to all PRCS. Corrects and identifies any unsafe act or condition to the Team Leader.
  • Ensure all activities meet Ahlstrom’s environmental and safety standards.
  • Follow procedures outlined for start-up of spunbond or film line. Set up the different process parameters for each grade as outlined in the Item Master.
  • Monitor material handling section to make sure that all materials are properly conveyed to the extruder (base resin, additives and pigments).
  • Responsible for removal, maintenance, cleaning and installations of extrusion equipment such as dies, feed-blocks screws, spin pack etc.
  • Obtain expertise status in required percentage of line sub-systems as outlined in the TPP.
  • Monitor the quality of the product. If product does not meet specifications, work with appropriate production resources to identify and resolve root cause(s).
  • Ensure key product properties are evaluated to ensure product meets specifications.
  • Requires a working knowledge of Ahlstrom’s computer system.
  • Understand packaging, labeling and storage of roll goods. Properly record production information (i.e. daily logs and control charts).
  • Comply with relevant departmental Work Instructions.
  • Recognize and maintain the desired level of cleanliness in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Must have knowledge of Ahlstrom Information Security policies and is for his/her own part responsible for ensuring information security when handling information and maintaining or using information systems or information networks
  • This position is additionally responsible as part of the manufacturing flexibility program to cross-train and be fully qualified to work in an at least one other alternate position within the manufacturing operation.
