POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator that will architect, implement, monitor & back-up our hosting infrastructure. This exceptional individual will coordinate and collaborate with cross functional teams to assure the success & smooth operations of our databases, primarily focused on SQL & MongoDB. The role will participate in the development of novel software & digital assets, via SDLC & Agile/Scrum with the entire department of Product, Engineering, Architecture, Compliance, Quality & Configuration.

Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

The ideal candidate will have expertise in the following concepts & technologies:

  • DB architecture: designing new installations & legacy structures.
  • Administrative & Data related work.
  • Review, evaluate, design, install & implement cloud DB’s.
  • Proactive monitoring & improving performance of applications/subsets accessing DB’s.
  • AWS Environment with failover architecture in Azure & GCP.
  • SQL/No SQL environments within Windows Hosting.
  • Back-up, recovery & business continuity: Cloud/on-site.
  • Data security.

KNOWLEDGE BASE: 

A mastery of documentation skills is a primary requirement for every role in the Application Development Department:

  • Escalation documents.
  • Disaster recovery documents.
  • PEM Keys, Ports & whitelisted IP Addresses.
  • DB Schema & Config.
  • Compliance Reports.
  • UAR’s.

 RESPONSIBILITIES & SKILL SET

Architecture:

  • Design & create databases to support development initiatives via SQL Specific Skills & MongoDB Specific Skills.
  • Act as an application DB during the design process in order to work closely with the application team to understand what changes are coming in a build/patch/hotfix; perform an impact analysis, fine-tune the queries.
  • Automate the process of deploying DB changes for a new build/patch/hotfix.
  • Identify & setup alerts & logging in AWS & Fail-over: Azure/GCP.

Maintenance:

  • Strong knowledge & understanding to optimize query performance.
  • Database hardening (evaluate, plan & perform maintenance, e.g. patches, updates) – implement best practices.
  • Implementing best practices for backups, replication, & health checks. Design & implement DR plans & HA solutions & recommendations. Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity experience.
  • Proficient in management, availability, security, & performance monitoring & optimization of database solutions.
  • Manages escalations, analyzes situations, & coordinates appropriate requirements to resolve issues by following delivery practices, considering cost implications, & engaging in conversations with internal & external stakeholders.
  • Experience to detect & resolve database-related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space & other contention issues.
  • Maintain databases – Statistics, Indexes, fragmentation. In addition, conduct performance tuning & optimization (stored procedures, views, functions, queries)
  • Support release/code deployment activities & Coordinate removal and/or archiving of data that is no longer required to be available in the production databases.

Agile/Scrum:

  • Working with software developers & software engineers for launches & ensuring that development & launches follows established processes & works as intended.
  • Planning & being involved in project management decisions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Formal/OTJ training or certification on software engineering concepts & applied experience.
    • 2 years of professional software development exposure to web applications, including team collaboration & code repository (GitHub).
    • 5 years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, unit & integration testing, & operations experience.
    • 3 years of active engagement in an Agile/Scrum team.
    • 4 years of professional experience in AWS.
    • 4 years of database administration with SQL.
    • 2 years of database administration with MongoDB.
    • 4 years of active engagement in design or architecture ( reliability, & scaling) of new & existing systems experience using AWS services.
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team.
  • Proven work experience in building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers.

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity & location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials & experience of the candidate; & other conditions of employment.
