Position Responsibilities: The Screening Specialist's primary responsibility is to review reports of abuse to determine if they meet the EOEA guidelines to be investigated by Protective Services, make calls to collect supportive information, document decisions made, and give direction to Protective Service Workers on their initial investigation steps. The Screening Specialist will answer the Consult line, receiving calls from community members, AgeSpan staff and the Executive Office of Elder Affairs Central Intake Unit regarding reports of potential abuse or neglect. The Screening Specialist will assist with record reviews for internal QA and assist consumers with the meeting of basic urgent needs and advocating for unmet needs. This position has the flexibility of be located at one of our two offices (Lawrence or Danvers, MA).

Essential Functions: (Core duties or tasks that are fundamental and not marginal to the performance of the job)

  • Screen Protective Services reports of abuse from mandated and non-mandated callers
  • Answer and respond to the PS Screening/Consult line for calls regarding potential emergencies from the Central Intake Unit (CIU) or consulting with AgeSpan staff and community collaterals on high-risk situations
  • Obtain, scan and complete document reviews of necessary documents such as police, medical and financial records
  • Give initial supervision (case planning) to PSW and document in APS, upon case assignment of new investigation
  • Interview key collaterals for investigation as needed for back up
  • Provide consultation to Protective Service Supervisors who are screening and need to talk through an incoming report or emergent situation
  • Assist with community education efforts as assigned by Assistant Director or Director
  • Respond to calls from Protective Workers in the field regarding active cases
  • Document all completed tasks within APS records accordingly to regulation
  • Manage and update the Case Assignment Log daily
  • Observe all confidentiality regulations and protect consumer information
  • Attend mandatory meetings and trainings
  • Internal QA review of investigations
  • Complete record redaction and data subject letters in accordance with program instructions and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned by Assist Director or Director

Qualifications: A Masters or higher degree from an accredited school in social work, psychology, counseling, human development, nursing, sociology, criminal justice, public health, public policy, or gerontology, plus at least one year of experience in counseling, casework, case management, preferably in a Protective Services or crisis intervention role preferred; A Bachelors' degree from an accredited school in social work, psychology, counseling, human development, nursing, sociology, criminal justice, public health, public policy, or gerontology, plus at least two years of experience in counseling, casework or case management providing protective or crisis intervention services may be substituted for Masters; LSW eligibility within 2.5 years of hire required; exceptional negotiation/ problem solving, written/verbal communication skills essential; experience with computers, necessary.

Hours: 37.5 per week
