Position Responsibilities : The Director of Communications is a Senior Management level position and plays an integral role in promoting AgeSpan's mission, programs and services. The Director of Communications will develop and execute a strategy and plan for all internal and external communications, website, social media, and public relations messaging for the agency and will collaborate with the agency's Executive Leadership and Senior Management teams on a variety of strategic and operational initiatives.
Essential Functions: (Core duties or tasks that are fundamental and not marginal to the performance of the job)
  • Develop, implement, and continually assess and improve an annual communications plan in collaboration with Executive and Senior Leadership. This includes communications both internal and external to the agency, such as education and public relation materials, marketing efforts, use of social media, community education, and internal training and support for staff and at all levels of the agency;
  • Partner with our Human Resources department to develop and implement strategies for effective communications with staff, volunteers, and interns, including but not limited to electronic communications and the agency intranet;
  • Lead the development and distribution of material that engages multiple relevant audiences and increases awareness of the agency's mission, vision and services. This includes all print and electronic collateral, such as, but not limited to, an annual report, newsletters, brochures and the agency website;
  • Collaborate with internal directors and managers to develop appropriate awareness and marketing materials for our diverse programs and services;
  • Direct and manage all social media communications across multiple platforms;
  • Collaborate with our Development department to coordinate, promote, and organize annual meetings and fundraising stewardship events to engage the agency's diverse audiences and stakeholders;
  • Exercise judgement in prioritizing communications and marketing opportunities;
  • Prepare talking points, speeches and other support material for the Executive Team as needed;
  • Serve as the lead person on media interactions and other efforts to increase awareness and visibility of the agency;
  • Manage a small communications team, which may include staff, interns, and volunteers to support the execution of the communications strategy
  • Manage relationships with communications related vendors or consultants;
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, communications, or related degree required. Master's degree preferred. A minimum of five years related experience required, with some portion in a communications leadership role.
  • Experience in or substantial knowledge of the private, non- profit sector is a plus.
  • Experience with website and newsletter production and message development required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication, supervisory and computer skills essential.
  • A strong commitment to the agency's mission.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, across the organization, and as part of a team
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications, Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Hours : 37.5 per week
