The Quality Assurance Specialist for Food Safety is responsible for supporting the Quality Assurance Specialist Lead with maintaining the required Certification as an SQF Practitioner, Food Security/Food Defense and Food Safety Plans, and HACCP/HARPC plans. Assist in coordinating Quality Assurance and related programs to ensure Product Quality and Food Safety. Monitor compliance with cGMP and Food Safety programs by ensuring that the processes, systems, and procedures are in place. Key Responsibilities
Compliance: Assure that manufacturing locations comply with Innophos-approved QA & Regulatory Standards
Ensure compliance with the applicable quality standards, SQF, safety dietary supplement standards, regulatory cGMP dietary standards FDA CFR 111, and food standards FDA CFR 117 through quality system reviews
Performs and or coordinates internal audits to ensure that Quality & Regulatory standards are being adhered to
Collaborate with Manufacturing/Quality Control to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and safety standards (FDA, etc.)
Keeps the system current with all related quality legislation and compliance issues
Manage customer complaint investigations
Support and assist investigation of non conformances to determine Root Cause, Corrective and Preventive Actions as assigned
Conduct record reviews and raw material and product releases as needed
Performs final disposition and release of products after review
Actively participate in safety initiatives, including but not limited to emergency response plans
Proactively mitigate accidents and eliminate unsafe conditions and report near-miss incidents
Maintain office area in acceptable and safe condition
Other duties as assigned
External audits: Assure the success of Customer's and Third-party audits
Support internal and external audits/inspections/customer visits
Support CAPA and implementation of audits gaps
Performance: QA Continuous improvement
Track key quality metrics, such as product quality, customer complaints, non-conforming products, etc., through a structured approach
Interface with vendors on quality-related issues as needed, in collaboration with the Corporate Supplier Quality Manager in charge of the Material/Suppliers program
Monitor and develop Quality Systems that continue to meet emerging industry trends
Create processes to expedite our response times to customers with quality issues
Manage quality documentation including but not limited to standard operating procedures (SOPs), associated forms, work instructions, logs, quality training
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Life science, or related field; advanced degree preferred
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Quality or Continuous Improvement disciplines within manufacturing
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience in the Food, Dietary Supplement, or pharmaceutical industries with advanced quality systems
Strong influence and partnership skills
FSMA/ PCQI certified is a plus
Root cause analysis
SQF is a plus
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Expertise in Risk Management and Project Management
Sanitation, Pest Control, Inventory Control, CAPA 5S/LEAN Manufacturing
Environmental and/or Physical Requirements
This job requires both in-plant work and office work
Plant conditions include high and low temperatures, areas where respirators or dust masks are required, and noisy conditions
Ability to work on feet, cherry picker/boom lifts
Walk, sit, stand, squat, reach, lift up to 50 lbs
Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available
