Job Description
The Quality Assurance & Food Safety Manager is responsible for directing food safety, quality and sanitation programs for Acme Smoked Fish Corp. at our Pompano Beach, FL location. This role ensures that all products meet food safety, customer, federal and state compliance. This position reports to the Corporate Senior Quality Assurance and Food Safety Manager.
What You Will Do At Acme:
  • Manages quality and food safety programs and personnel in accordance with organizational objectives.
  • Ensures product and documentation requirements compliant to regulatory (FDA, State Health Departments, USDC), customer, and third-party requirements.
  • Maintain Seafood HACCP certification and ensure full compliance of Acme Smoked Fish Corp. manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain a continuous improvement plan to ensure that products and processes meet and exceed company and regulatory standards.
  • Leads all inspections relating to customer, GFSI, sustainability, and regulatory organizations.
  • Manage vendor compliance programs for facility and corporate to assure that products and vendors are qualified to meet Acme's and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to determine efficient ways to process and distribute our products in accordance with all food and safety regulations.
  • Work in collaboration with R&D and Engineering to ensure accuracy and compliance of product and process information.
  • Provide support and guidance to the Customer Service Department for food safety and quality related issues.
  • Collaborate with sales team and fulfill product, quality and regulatory inquiries and requests from customers and customer portals.
  • Manage consumer complaint database and share trend report to management team for ongoing improvement.
  • Manage finished product specification and in-house label program for all facilities.
  • Manage and maintain HACCP, SSOP, SOP, EMP, and GMP programs according to relevant up-to-date scientific research/information and according to current regulatory/third party standards.
  • Leads facility corrective action plans to address regulatory deficiencies, product related consumer complaints, and food safety/quality deficiencies.
  • Document and implement a robust pathogen control program, complete with:
    • Training guidelines for Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) and Sanitation Standard Operating Practices.
    • Inclusive of training for production managers, production staff, and maintenance staff.
  • Manage sanitation program for entire facility (production and office areas), inclusive of Master Sanitation Schedule for the facility.
  • Manage finished product testing (including test and hold programs).
  • Provide trend reports and analysis against company goals and KPIs.
  • Monitor performance results and communicate action plan to senior management.
  • Manage the quality and food safety budget for the facility.
  • Provide documentation for Acme's import and export compliance.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Lead a culture of quality and food safety.
  • Manage a team of skilled technical staff.
  • Train to advance knowledge across key teams (production staff, maintenance, management, sanitation teams).
  • Provide constructive and timely performance feedback to direct reports.
  • Set clear performance expectations, establish goals, and provide regular feedback to drive individual and team success.
  • Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Act as a champion of the company's core values and lead by example for direct and indirect reports
About You
Your Education & Experience:

  • 5 years in food manufacturing required, with 3 years in the Technical and Quality function preferred, in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related field.
  • 3 years of leading and mentoring teams required.
  • Experience working within an FDA or USDA regulated facility is preferred.
Your Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge or certification of USFDA's Seafood HACCP Guidelines a plus.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and food safety standards, including third party standards such as GFSI (BRCG and SQF).
  • Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in diverse groups and ability to influence others.
  • Completion of training programs as assigned and/or required including standard of work.

  • Functional/Technical Capacity.
  • Ability to use basic mathematical and computer skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Spanish a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to spend up to 80% of time in plant environment with temperatures as low as 32*F and wet environment as well.
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms or legs to perform job tasks.
  • Must be able to reach above and below shoulder height to move product. This includes the ability to move throughout all areas of the facility.
  • Ability to go up and down stairs.
  • The ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects using hands, arms, back, abdominal muscles, shoulders, legs, or a combination of these muscle groups.
  • The ability to wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job duties.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
