Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position

The Temporary Horticulture Research Assistant will assist the Unit Manager and Horticultural Unit staff at N.C. A&T State University Farm located at 3136 McConnell Rd, Greensboro, NC. The Temporary Horticulture Research Assistant will conduct activities necessary to complete applied high tunnel and small field research projects and on-farm demonstrations funded by the Cooperative Extension.
Duties includes:
High tunnel field preparation, transplanting, weeding, trellising, irrigation and fertigation, harvesting, and data collection.
High tunnel management such as opening and closing high tunnels, weeding and mowing the premises of projects, and high tunnel repairs.
Must be able to work outside in hot and cold weather. Must be able to lift 40 pounds, and bend, stoop and climb a stepladder. Research activities and project management may require working at adverse weather conditions in summer and winter.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Horticultural Unit at the University Farm of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University implements horticultural research and extends unbiased, research based information to small farms in North Carolina.

Work Hours
Work hours will be flexible. Schedule to be determined by supervisor and employee, and will include 24 hours per week. Weekend work and in-state travel may be required occasionally.
