Job Description:

Position Title: Shop Manager

Location: Shop (Must live within 50 minutes of our shop) - 2820 Via Orange Way, Unites U & V, San Diego CA 91978

Aftermath is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Shop Manager to lead our team. This role is designed for a dynamic leader who excels in both operational management and team development. As a Shop Manager, you will be at the forefront of maintaining high standards of service and performance. Compensation: The pay is calculated on a tiered scale with the top hourly rate of $36 per hour.

Job Overview:

The Shop Manager is central to overseeing all aspects of the shop's operations, including staff management, training, scheduling, inventory control, and financial performance. This role requires a blend of strong business acumen, salesmanship, leadership skills, customer service, and technical expertise in biohazard remediation. In addition to creating monthly schedules for all shop personnel and overseeing team performance, the Shop Manager is also responsible for actively participating in field operations, stepping in as a Supervisor when necessary to ensure the highest standards of service and efficiency. They are tasked with maintaining accountability across all operations and ensuring compliance with safety standards, while fostering a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and effective communication within the organization.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Direct leadership and development of Supervisors and Technicians, ensuring adherence to safety standards and company policies.
  • Direct job site management and support of the Supervisor(s) and the Technician(s) in various biohazard remediation projects, including suicides, homicides, unattended deaths, and more.
  • Responsible for shop operations, including staffing, interviewing, onboarding, training, and scheduling.
  • Create and manage a comprehensive monthly schedule for all shop personnel, ensuring optimal staffing levels to meet business needs and operational efficiency.
  • Responsible for vehicle care, shop maintenance, inventory counts, and supply orders.
  • Lead efforts in biowaste management, customer service, and job execution.
  • Drive business growth through effective lead generation and influencer relationships.
  • Manage and report on shop performance, including revenue targets and cost management.
  • Responsible for managing the Shop's Profit and Loss (P&L) statement.
  • Facilitate community outreach to build brand awareness and establish strong local partnerships.
  • Respond promptly to service calls, providing job site biohazard remediation services in various emergency situations
  • Lead on-site customer interactions with empathy and professionalism, providing high-quality service and ensuring customer satisfaction throughout the biohazard remediation process.
  • Exhibit compassionate professionalism in all interactions, both within the team and with customers, especially in sensitive and emotional situations.
  • Accurately estimate, recommend, and advise on project scopes, manage cleanups, and handle necessary paperwork.
  • Responsible for effectively communicating and selling a tailored scope of work based on a thorough understanding of the client’s needs, and obtaining sign-off to initiate work
  • Collaborate with the Aurora Support Center to ensure jobs are sold, managed, and billed in accordance to Aftermath & insurance carrier guidelines.
  • Coordinate logistics and travel for the team, fostering a collaborative environment and ensuring efficient and effective project execution.
  • Responsible for the use and care of company equipment and vehicle maintenance.
  • Promote and adhere to strict safety and compliance rules, ensuring a safe work environment.
  • Responsible for ongoing training of sales, processes, procedures, and safety compliance to the team, ensuring the highest standards of service and technical proficiency.
  • Maintain open and clear communication channels with the Supervisor(s), ensuring alignment on objectives, strategies, and operational updates.
  • Communicate effectively with the Area Manager, providing regular updates on shop performance, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Support Market Manager and Area Manager in daily operations and special projects as needed.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing work conditions and assignments.
  • This role may require undertaking other duties as assigned by the Area Manager or as necessitated by business needs, and may evolve with organizational changes.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to respond to dispatch office within one hour of receiving a call.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs and handle physically demanding tasks.
  • Occasional overnight travel, with accommodations provided by the company.
  • Capable of handling a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.

Experience and Skills:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Must reside locally and be able to respond to the shop within one hour of receiving a service call
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in biohazard remediation, construction, demolition, restoration, or a related field.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership experience, preferably in a technical or field service environment.
  • Must possess strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must show a commitment to professional development and continuous learning in biohazard remediation and related fields.
  • Must have completed Aftermath’s Field Learning Path within 30 days of start, and Supervisor Learning Path within 90 days of start.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Environmental Science, or a related field; or have similar years of experience.
  • IICRC S540 certification or equivalent in biohazard remediation
  • Proven experience in project management and team leadership in high-stress scenarios.
  • Customer service experience and military personnel are highly valued.
  • Exceptional communication skills and a track record of successful community engagement and outreach.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and relevant software.
