We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to lead projects and initiatives on the Trust & Safety Foundations team. Our mission is to provide fast, secure, reliable, and extensible foundational platforms to empower Affirm business use cases related to Trust and Safety. As part of this exciting opportunity, team members will have the chance to contribute to the development and implementation of cutting-edge technologies, participate in data-driven decision-making, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to address emerging issues. You’ll be responsible for,
• Designing and building scalable backend systems and services that empower Affirm's trust & safety capabilities
• Working with cross-functional teams to understand the foundational problems we are facing and propose long-term viable technical solutions
• Monitor and make data-driven decisions to further improve the performance and quality of the platforms and services we own.
Being a vital cornerstone within our organization, the Trust & Safety Foundations team assumes a crucial role in upholding the integrity of our platforms. This is achieved through the development of foundational services, facilitating greater efficiency and scalability in the operations of Identity and Fraud areas.
What You’ll Do
• Work across the org to plan and execute large, cross-functional initiatives, including project definition, technical specification, task break-down, delivery, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Generate simple and elegant designs that are easily deployed and debugged, but anticipate the unhappy path. Write high-quality code that can be easily understood and leveraged by others.
• Review others’ work and provide constructive feedback in order to maintain high and consistent quality standards across teams.
• Lead and mentor engineers to help them succeed and grow. Provide the right context to engineers and train them to take ownership of their respective pieces of the initiative.
• Effectively incorporate needs and opinions from stakeholders, advocate for ideas and initiatives, and create a common understanding where all voices are heard.
• Conduct technical and soft skill evaluations to inform and influence the hiring decisions. Develop and review the technical content and requirements of the interview process.
What We Look For
• 3-5 years of experience as a software engineer with leadership exposure and experience mentoring junior engineers
• Prior experience architecting, building, launching, coding, and maintaining complex systems
• Proficiency in Python, Java or Kotlin, and MySQL
• Passion for working with cross-functional teams including Product, fraud/Identity decisioning, credit/underwriting, Analytics, and Business teams
• Expert at synthesizing complex business, product, and technical requirements to consistently produce high-quality system designs and software

Employees new to Affirm or promoted into a new role, typically begin in the min to mid range.
USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT) per year:
Min: $162,400
Mid: $203,000
Max: $243,500
USA base pay range (all other U.S. states) per year:
Min: $146,200
Mid: $182,700
Max: $219,200
