POSITION SUMMARY: Fill the prescriptions written by physicians or other practitioners authorized by law to prescribe medication for agency clients. Reviews prescriptions and consults with clinicians when necessary. Provides medical information to clients through consultation. Provides clinical pharmacy services and oversight.
POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited pharmacy program
Experience: Three (3) years of pharmacy experience; clinic or healthcare facility preferred
Skills and abilities, which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:
Residency and Transportation Requirement: Must possess a valid driver's license and automobile with insurance coverage as required by the State of Missouri.
License(s)/Certification(s) Required: Valid Pharmacy License - State of Missouri.
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Essential Functions
1. Receives, reviews, and interprets prescriptions written by physicians or other practitioners authorized by law to prescribe medication. Determines completeness of prescription to assure that medication has been properly prescribed. Provides information to patients through consultation. Monitors patient profiles on a daily basis.
2. Assigns price for items issued on prescription or requisition basis in accordance with established fee schedule. Bottles or otherwise packages medications and affixes labels to appropriate containers.
3. Stores, preserves, and issues in accordance with procedures, biological, vaccines, serums, and other drugs subject to deterioration. Assure that narcotics and alcohol are stored in safeguarded are in accordance with Federal and State laws. Periodically check expiration dates of drugs and medical supplies to avoid deterioration.
4. Answers the telephone in the pharmacy area and give replies to requests for information or refer or relay calls to appropriate person.
5. Supervises, directs, and provides oversight to the Pharmacy. Resolves or clarifies problems arising with respect to pharmacy operation, and other Health Center services and personnel. Refers problems to the COO for review.
6. Sends stock to each clinic site as needed.
7. Consults with the advisory members of the medical or related staff concerning the formulary on medications, therapeutic devices, and drug therapy. Supplies information and informational materials with respect to drugs and drug products.
8. Provides clinical pharmacy services and oversight.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
Marginal Functions
1. Keeps abreast of the latest technical development affecting scope of responsibilities by membership and participation in various local, state, national organizations and related activities.
2. Attends Pharmacy Advisory Meeting on a quarterly basis.
3. Makes recommendations to Vice President to improve methods and procedures.
Supervises: Part-time Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technicians, Students and Volunteers.
