Not afraid of scrappiness in this versatile role, your job scope will involve owning all parts of the development lifecycle from desktop engineering design and simulation to hands-on automotive integration and root-cause analysis. You will own and lead the safety-critical design, implementation, and reliability engineering of our ground vehicle hardware platform to automate cargo and baggage movement at some of the busiest airports around the world.The opportunity offers a technical, hands-on engineer the chance to help develop a market-defining enterprise product that combines autonomous vehicle technology with a software-as-a-service (SaaS) business model.This role will work directly with our co-founders.What You’ll DoMaintain and improve the reliability of current vehicle autonomy systems, including all electrical and mechanical aspects of our autonomous sensing and actuation platform, as well as the base vehicle itselfDefine, lead, and own the hands-on creation of new vehicle platform integrations to expand the compatibility of our autonomy systems with a broad range of airport vehicles, interacting with suppliers and vendors as appropriateDesign, test, and track the safety-critical functionality of our autonomous vehicle through simulations and real-world test runs, including executing a multi-stage pilot project in contexts that include baggage halls, vehicle corridors and the airport apronWork with the autonomy engineering team at large to support all aspects of ground vehicle autonomy, including calibration and integration of perception, planning, navigation, and control systemsUnderstand and keep up to date with automotive and robotics safety standards Up to 50% travel may be requiredQualificationsMinimum QualificationsStrong fundamentals in mechanical engineering, including fabrication, design, and metalworking with use of tools such CAD, MIG and MMA welding, and common machining methodsExperience with electrical distribution, logic, and signal processing/manipulation, including CAN bus, differential signaling, and transmission line theoryFamiliarity with electrical distribution, PCB assembly, modifications and repairs to SMT boards down to 0402 component sizes, high and low voltage wiring harnesses and circuit protection devices with the use of tools and processes such as oscilloscopes, micropencil, and PIDG Crimps (must be able to inspect crimps)High-performing power electronics experience including comfort developing for high-voltage (60-1500VDC and 30-1000VAC) as defined by ECE/324/Rev.2, servicing industrial batteries of varied chemistries, and implementing wide-ranging DC-DC and DC-AC convertersThorough understanding of DFM, DFA, DFT, and DFR principles for both mechanical and electrical systemsCandidates with unconventional experiences especially encouragedWillingness to get hands-on and have lots of fun Ideal QualificationsMultiple years of experience in hardware design and assembly of both mechanical and electrical systemsBackground in safety-critical software/system development (preferably a ground robotics functional safety standard such as ISO 26262 or IEC 61508)Prior experience developing and supporting all aspects of autonomy for a production ground-vehicle subsystem, or research prototype (end-to-end, full lifecycle development preferred)Startup experienceComprehensive profile of personal projects relating to mechatronics systemsExperience with ROSAdditional InformationAeroVect is a technology company that applies the latest advances in autonomous driving systems to create today the airports and logistics centers of the future.
