Housekeeping Aide

Overview:

The Housekeeper Aide provides cleaning services to help assure a safe, sanitary, comfortable and homelike environment for the residents, staff, and the public. Housekeeping services provided are maintained in accordance with facility policies and procedures. The policies and procedures are to be consistent with state and federal laws and regulations to maintain an environment that enhances the quality of life for the residents.

Qualifications:

* Freedom from illegal use of drugs.

* Freedom from use of/effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

* Persons who have been found guilty by a court of law for abusing, neglecting, or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in this position.

* Utilizes effective time management skills.

Education and/or Experience:

Must have sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy. Prior housekeeping experience in a medical facility setting is preferred.

Language Skills:

Must demonstrate functional literacy.

Mathematical Skills:

Must demonstrate functional literacy.

Reasoning Skills:

Must demonstrate functional literacy.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

* Carries out all duties in accord with the facility's mission and philosophy.

* Demonstrates knowledge of/and respect for the rights, dignity, and individuality of each resident in all interactions.

* Demonstrates honesty and integrity at all times during the care and use of resident and facility property. Able to understand and follow written and verbal direction. Able to effectively communicate with staff members and residents through verbal and/or written means.

* Understands and respects the importance of maintaining confidentiality of resident and facility information.

* Knowledge of emergency disaster procedures of facility. Able to locate emergency exits, fire alarm pulls, and fire extinguishers.

* Sufficient mobility, strength, and ability to move freely throughout the building to perform required job duties and to assure resident safety at all times. To assist, transfer or otherwise move residents of the facility out of danger in case of emergency.

* Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks/responsibilities and complete duties/projects as assigned.

* Able to carry out the essential functions of this job (with or without reasonable accommodation) without posing risk of substantial harm to health and safety of self

and/or others.

* Cleans assigned resident laundry according to facility's policies and procedures.

* Respects resident's privacy and preferences about room arrangement and personal items.

* Cleans facility linens according to facility's policies and procedures and cleaning schedules.

* Takes appropriate actions to assure laundry supplies are out of reach of residents at all times.

* Disposes of trash and waste, including bio-hazardous waste and other materials that require special handling in accordance with facility's policies and procedures.

* Posts signage indicating safety hazards any time laundry activities pose environmental hazards to staff, residents, visitors, and/or others in facility.

* Uses personal protection equipment when at risk of exposure to blood or other potentially hazardous body fluids and all other times indicated by facility policies and procedures.

* Complies with all safety instructions and procedures when using chemical substances. Refers to labels and Material Safety Data Sheets for instructions. Keeps all chemicals and cleaning supplies in their original containers. Asks supervisor for assistance if unsure of proper handling techniques.

* Monitors and reports all evidence of rodents or pests to supervisor.

* Communicates with Director of Housekeeping & Laundry with preparation for state inspections. Attends survey training and interacts with state surveyors as instructed by immediate supervisor.

* Reports injury of self or others to supervisor immediately.

* Monitors workplace for safety and fire hazards. Corrects or reports potential problems to Director of Environmental Services promptly.

* Attends in-service education programs as assigned. Applies information to job tasks.

* Participates in fire and disaster drills. In the event of an emergency will carry out assigned duties to assure resident safety.

* All other housekeeping duties as assigned.

The physical requirements described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit, use hands, use fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands, reach with arms, talk, and listen. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision, distant vision, and peripheral vision. Occasional physical effort with medium to heavy objects.

Pay: $12.00 - $15.50 per hour
