This position is in support of the METTS II contract at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) on the Redstone Arsenal located in Huntsville Alabama. This position is in direct support of the Valve and Component Laboratory supporting test activities as well as other pressure systems activity across MSFC.

Job Description/Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed involving a sequence of related operations necessary to restore components to their original condition. Receives detailed process instructions and seeks explicit advice from Team Lead or a senior technician on unfamiliar assignments as needed and performs recurring work independently. Records and documents pertinent component information and operation in process instructions during servicing. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy and conformity with process instructions upon completion. Technician should be familiar with mechanical equipment such as valves, regulators, gauges, pumps. This technician performs at this level, one or a combination of such typical duties as:

• Responsible for disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, repair, and hydrostatic/pneumatic testing of various valves, including but not limited to manually and actuated hand valves, gate valves, globe valves, ball valves, check valves, and safety/pressure relief valves.
• Read and interpret schematics pertaining to the assembly, repair and reassembly of valves.
• Follow documentation and formal instructions given in accordance with all MSFC Quality Control procedures and ASME, API, and National Board codes and standards, as well as manufacturers specifications.
• Thoroughly complete all documentation associated with testing and repairs.
• Communicate timely updates to management and co-workers to ensure timely and successful completion of job responsibilities.
• Shall obtain “Valve Repair” certification through OJT and internal or third-party training.
• Other Duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements for this position:

• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Must be capable of working with other VCL technicians and support personnel in a laboratory/shop environment
• Must be proficient with a Windows based operating system
• Ability to work in both independent and team settings
• Must have the ability to follow specific work instructions and understand mechanical schematics of components and the environments they operate (cryogenics, high pressure, hydraulics, etc.)
• Ability to use measurement devices
• Able to work with minimal supervision
• Knowledge of, and ability to safely use basic hand tools
• Dedication to a safe work environment
• Be able to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds
• Able to operate power tools and equipment
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening
• Must be able to pass a security background check per Redstone Arsenal/MSFC requirements
• Must possess a valid Driver’s License

Education, Training & Experience required:

• Engineering Technician II requires a High School Diploma/GED with up to one (1) year of engineering technician experience

• Engineering Technician III requires a High School Diploma/GED with up to three (3) years engineering technician experience, preferably related to operating and maintaining industrial systems.
• Knowledge of pressure system operations is strongly desired.
