This position is in support of the METTS II contract at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) on the Redstone Arsenal located in Huntsville Alabama. This position is in direct support of the Pressurant and Propellant Delivery Systems (PPDS) group supporting propulsion test activities as well as other pressure systems activity across MSFC.

Responsibilities:

The Drafter/CAD Operator uses CAD equipment to provide support to engineers and technicians by preparing piping and instrumentation diagrams and detail drawings from sketches and diagrams created by engineers. Makes copies of drawings and maintains information regarding changes. Has a solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with engineering terminology. Has familiarity with CAD software. Produces clear and technically accurate drawings based on design specifications. Assists in configuration and control processes for component data and work order tracking. The Drafter/CAD Operator performs typical duties such as:

• Create technical drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), electrical schematics, and 2D and 3D models of mechanical equipment designs, using measurements, specifications and additional data from engineering team.
• Collect initial drawings, calculations and design ideas from engineers, and combine all relevant data into coherent and complete initial design models for review and modification.
• Coordinate directly with engineers to understand project requirements, verify design details and recommend modifications as needed according to company standards and best practices.
• Annotate and verify all numerical designations and specifications in technical drawings and schematics.
• Provide support to engineering team as needed by creating technical drawings within deadlines and utilizing multiple methods to ensure deliverables include all relevant design details.
• Record component information and work order history in configuration management system according to direction of engineering
• Assist engineering in organizing and scheduling work orders

Minimum Requirements:

• Candidate must display a strong attention to detail, be able to work within deadlines, and be capable of working with engineers, technicians, and support personnel in an office environment.
• Must have the ability to follow specific work instructions and understand mechanical schematics of components and the environments they operate (cryogenics, high pressure, hydraulics, etc.).
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening.
• Must be a US citizen and be able to pass a security background check per Redstone Arsenal/MSFC requirements.

• Associate degree in drafting and proficiency with AutoCAD 2D and Bentley Microstation is preferred.
• Familiarity with mechanical equipment such as valves, regulators, gauges, pumps a plus.
