At WATTS Water Technologies, the Supplier Development Engineer (SDE) will be responsible for driving cost takeout quality and on-time delivery in the supply base by applying LEAN/Six Sigma tools, processes and operating systems. The SDEis responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership for the evaluation and development of new and existing suppliers worldwide. They must manage the overall performance of OTD, quality and cost performance of materials produced by Suppliers. This responsibility requires the following tasks among others: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned. Support business in working with suppliers to reduce cost, quality and delivery performance. This includes: Cell layout, supporting supplier end to end value stream improvement, tooling, methods and operating system. Conduct Supplier survey and capacity assessment evaluation for second source recommendations Work with Sourcing to Reduce risk of production disruption (Single Point Failures, Bottlenecks, Poor Yield, etc) Optimize processes and propose changes for Producibility internally and at suppliers’ facilities Co-Lead the procurement initiative on transforming our supplier base (rationalization, re-sourcing) by supporting with supplier assessment and development in line with compliance, risk management, cost, quality, delivery and services targets Identify outsourcing projects and develop start up programs with global supply base. Evaluate new supplier's technological capability to meet required design, quality, and material specifications. Be the Platform leader in supplier selection and supplier audits by identifying and visiting all potential suppliers and developing a measurement process for approving. Participates in CPI and warranty cost recovery Collaborate with Manufacturing to improve supplier cost, quality, and throughput. Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of technological developments and trends for guidance of commodity teams in advancements of design, quality, and manufacturing. Resolve problems between supplier to plant and supplier to engineering personnel. Work with Engineering to provide supplier solutions for NPD and to help resolve issues with sustaining products. Executes onsite assessments with buyers, quality, and engineering teams to drive supplier improvement. Ability to read engineering drawings and assess for manufacturing capabilities Proficiency in project management skills with the ability to close initiatives on time Proficient with Microsoft Office required including strong skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project. Experience with Automotive/Industrial/Aerospace/Defense products or related products EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Requires a minimum BSME or BSIE and 5-10 years related experience.
