Job Description
AECOM is seeking a well-rounded Senior Water Quality Engineer with a focus on water quality, stormwater compliance, industrial wastewater and water regulatory guidance in Southern California. The selected candidate will join AECOM's Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Air practice within the Environment Business Line. The primary emphasis of the group is to support clients with their environmental regulatory compliance needs for a variety of federal, municipal, and private-sector clients. The Senior Water Quality Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining client relationships for the EHS practice, managing complex projects and programs, mentoring and developing junior staff.
A successful candidate will have demonstrated experience managing clients in California and/or along the West Coast, as well as the ability to utilize their environmental technical compliance experience to help our clients navigate their environmental compliance challenges. Additionally, qualified candidates will have excellent analytical, writing, presentation, and managerial skills, with a professional background in environmental consulting.
The Senior Water Quality Engineer will also work under the direction of the EHS Practice Lead in client project delivery, writing proposals, winning work and marketing AECOM's services through webinars and promotional material.
Significant experience in the following areas is required:
- Supporting business development efforts, including preparation of technical and cost proposals, to grow our environmental compliance work with new clients and existing.
- Developing and maintaining positive relationships with clients to enhance client retention and growth.
- Managing projects which include but not limited to the preparation Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), industrial wastewater discharge permits, managing a stormwater sampling team, Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures (SPCC) Plans and other water quality or compliance projects.
- Researching, reviewing, and analyzing policies and regulations.
- Supporting regulatory compliance tasks relating to stormwater management.
- Mentoring junior staff and leading project teams to efficiently execute environmental compliance projects.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Management, Science, Engineering, or relevant environmental discipline.
- 6 years of technical experience directly related to environmental multi-media environmental regulatory compliance (e.g., CWA, RCRA, CAA, HSC etc.) and its application (i.e., developing SPCC/SWPPP plans, preparing NPDES stormwater and wastewater permits, conducting multi-media compliance audits and providing corrective actions, developing environmental compliance SOPs and programs, etc.).
- Qualified Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan Developer and Practitioner (QSD / QSP) and/or Qualified Industrial Stormwater Practitioner (QISP)
- Valid US Driver's License and pre-employment driving record verification is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification (e.g., CHMM, PE, CEP) and/or PMP certification.
- Experience in developing and implementing construction and industrial stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs) in California
- At least 8 years of project/program management experience directly related to environmental compliance projects from proposal development through completion for an environmental consulting firm (i.e., developing proposals/cost estimates, managing clients, projects, and project teams; coordinating resources and managing subcontractors; etc.).
- Ability to independently manage various environmental compliance projects and programs ranging in size and scale.
- Environmental consulting experience with both public and private-sector clients in California.
- Experience working with communicating and working with various regulatory agencies.
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills; proficient in technical writing; highly effective organization and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple demands, think strategically and successfully lead multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, judgment and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience mentoring junior staff and leading project teams for environmental compliance work.
- Ability to support business development efforts, including preparation of technical and cost proposals, to grow our environmental compliance work with existing and new clients.
- Working understanding of federal contracting and sub-contracting practices and requirements.
- Experience with health & safety regulatory compliance.
- Managing environmental due diligence portfolios (Phase I and II
Additional Information
- Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Some travel is required in and around the state of California and the west region (up to 25%/month).
- Offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $80,000-149,000.00.
