Job Description

AECOM is looking for a Resident Engineer to lead a Headworks Rehabilitation Project valued at over $250 million in construction cost. This assignment is intended to be long-term, and on-site at a wastewater treatment plant in Fountain Valley, California. The individual in this position must have proven ability to manage complex, technical engineering (wastewater/civil/mechanical/electrical/I&C) construction projects, lead construction project teams (Assistant REs, Inspectors, Schedulers, etc.); encourage a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with all departments; lead project team in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost control, schedule control, change management, risk management, and performance; and identify problems, analyze information and develop sound recommendations. This individual will act as the primary project interface for the client with designer, contractor, operations, and maintenance, and will lead project meetings with contractor and stakeholders effectively delivering results in a timely manner.

In addition, this person must be able to perform/manage the most diverse, largest, and most complex assignments; lead and participate in the contract change process including receiving and responding to requests for information; develop and issue requests for proposals; receive and respond to requests for change; prepare engineer’s estimates and records of negotiations; prepare and issue field change orders; review construction submittals and commissioning plans for compliance with the technical specifications; ensure projects are constructed in compliance with contract documents; develop recommendations to project problems and issues during construction. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills with a strong background in engineering construction management for large capital wastewater infrastructure are essential.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the Project Quality Plans interface satisfactorily with the requirements of the Contract.

  • Ensure implementation of the Quality Plan for the project.

  • Respond to CM RFCs (Requests for Clarifications) and Contractor’s RFIs (Request for Information) on interpretation of Contract documents, assist in resolution of unanticipated field conditions, and recommend corrective actions.

  • Coordinate the activities of the contracts with outside agencies and utilities.

  • Manage technical review of contractor submittals by design team.

  • Manage the preparation of change requests to address field conditions and stakeholder requests.

  • Conduct project Design Coordination meetings.

  • Ensure staff maintains high ethical standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BS in Civil, Construction, or Structural Engineering and 10 years of related construction engineering and or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education.

  • California Professional Engineer License (P.E.).

  • Valid U.S. Driver's license

Preferred Requirements

  • Must have supervised two [2] completed construction projects with a minimum of $50 Million. The projects shall have included water/wastewater infrastructure work.

  • Demonstrated experience in a lead role (e.g., Lead Technical Project Engineer / Project Manager / Engineer of Record on at least one construction projects completed greater than $100 Million.

Compensation

  • Exempt Position: The offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is USD 180,000 -$227,000.
