Job Description:

Payroll Specialist- Grand Forks, ND

The Payroll Specialist will process payroll in a multi-state corporate environment. This includes a wide variety of activities, including computing wage and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll deductions, and completing needed compliance reporting for approximately 350 employees.

Responsibilities

  • Review employee timesheets to ensure accurate recording of work hours and leave
  • Provide employees with training on timekeeping system
  • Enter payroll data into payroll system and spreadsheets, considering factors such as bonuses, commissions, and wage garnishments
  • Maintain accurate records of employee information, tax details, and deductions
  • Reconcile payroll deductions and changes
  • Prepare and reconcile payroll drafts
  • Ensure payroll is delivered accurately and timely
  • Create and submit electronic files for bank and retirement plan contribution uploads related to payroll
  • Balance payroll accounts by auditing information, identifying and resolving discrepancies, and correcting history as appropriate
  • Produce annual W-2s and management reports
  • File monthly, quarterly, and year-end payroll reports and make necessary payments timely and accurately
  • Act as a subject matter expert as it relates to gross to net payroll rules and wage and hour laws; remain up-to-date on multi-state and federal payroll rules and regulations to ensure compliance
  • Provide client service to internal employees by answering questions and inquiries related to paychecks, deductions, etc.

Basic Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or other related field
  • 3 years of payroll experience including knowledge of multi-state payroll, tax, deductions, and the associated accounting transactions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Ability to maintain a high level of discretion with confidential information
  • Must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or other related field
  • Experience with fee and hourly billing in a professional services firm
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Diligence and commitment to following through and resolving issues
  • Experience using Deltek Vantagepoint
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to independently manage time and prioritize responsibilities to meet deadlines
