Advocate Aurora is Hiring an Ultrasound Vascular Technologist, Full Time Nights! Near Oak Lawn, IL

$5000.00 Sign on Bonus for external candidates!

Major Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the positioning and scanning all vascular procedures for patients and proper selection of technical factors to provide accurate examinations
    • 1)Selects appropriate technical factors on an individual patient and procedural basis to provide optimal quality examinations
    • 2)Proficient in all concepts of all vascular exams
    • 3)Operates all equipment within the Ultrasound department proficiently and accurately.
    • 4)Prepare patient for examination by explaining procedure and answering questions patient may have.
    • 5)Processes and copies films when necessary
    • 6)Network images to PACS – merge/delete as needed, correct problems that arise.
    • 7)Possess advanced level certification, RVT.
    • 8). Independently performs arterial exams and gives physiologic assessment of arteries and veins
    • 9)Accurately recognizes and demonstrates hemodynamics of arterial, venous and carotid circulation.
  • Accountable for securing pertinent history from patient, patient’s chart or family member to provide the radiologist with adequate information for examination interpretation and to ensure procedural criteria is met
    • 1)Reviews patient charts for medical information, explains test procedure to patient.
    • 2) Correlates current exam data with that from the patient’s prior exams
  • Accountable for being compliant with established Accrediting Organization and department safety standards to ensure patients and staff well being at all times
    • 1)Maintains fire safety standards
    • 2)Maintains knowledge of department Code Blue policy
    • 3)Maintains knowledge of departmental disaster, evacuation and quench policies.
    • 4)Maintains and constantly implements universal and infectious safety standards.
    • 5)Maintains documentation of equipment malfunctions
    • 6)Attends mandatory in-services
    • 7)Promotes patient safety by reporting issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives
    • 8)Check supplies on a daily basis for expired dates, follow infection control rules for compliance.
  • Accountable for obtaining documentation for department records related to Patient statistics, supplies, patient billing information and preservation of Patient records
    • 1)Documents confidential patient’s history to ensure appropriateness of patient for examination.
    • 2)Documents patient charge data, modifying and initiating charges as procedure modifications are made per the radiologist.
    • 3)Provides timely information for inventory of supplies
    • 4)Assists in scheduling of examinations and documenting complete
    • 5)Orders supplies to maintain adequate department inventories.
  • Accountable for keeping abreast of current ultrasound techniques and of new developments in the field
    • 1)Responsible for attending inservices and educational seminars when appropriate
    • 2)Responsible for instructing other technologists to certain new techniques learned, as well as working with students when required
  • Accountable for maintaining good relations when dealing with all persons encountered in daily performance of job
    • 1)Relating with Internal Customers - fellow staff members, physicians
    • 2)Relating with External Customers - ancillary departments, inpatients/outpatients, family members
    • 3)Demonstrates reliability and for attendance and punctuality
    • 4) Assumes lead position as necessary in the absence of Ultrasound Coordinator / Charge Technologist

Education/Experience Required:

  • -3 years general Ultrasound - RDMS - RVT

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • -Basic knowledge of all Ultrasound procedures and non-invasive vascular.
  • - RDMS - RVT -CPR Certification

Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • -Ability to work overtime when required. -Ability to be flexible in starting times to meet demands.(weekend rotation and flexible hours.) -Attends additional educational and safety inservices. -Ability to respond to work at short notice.. -Ability to operate portable equipment. -Ability to deal with extremely ill patients. -Ability to communicate with patients -Ability to adjust to flexible work hours. -Ability to work weekends, holidays, and emergency call-back. -Ability to participate on-call program and available to department needs with minimal notice. -Ability to do light, medium or heavy lifting. LIGHT: Lifting up to 20-50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. MEDIUM: Lifting up to 20-50 pounds occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly. HEAVY: Lifting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantly. -Ability to make independent professional decisions using good judgment skills. -Ability to practice high quality patient care and technical competence. -Ability to function with minimal assistance in performing job activities. -Ability to demonstrate oral and written communication skills. -May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, such as film processing chemicals. -Ability to attend out-of-town site visits to view equipment. *This position will need to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e., understand child growth and development, normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging. Prior experience with various age groups is preferred.
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
