Advocate Aurora is Hiring a Senior Financial Analyst, Charitable Foundation Near Brook, IL

Major Responsibilities:

  • Prepare journal entries (for review and release by the accounting operation’s team) for restricted fund transfers requested by fund administrators. Monitor fund transfer requests to ensure compliance with AAH and AAHF policies/procedures and external rules/regulations. Prepare journal entries after review of supporting documentation to determine restricted fund, amount of transfer, purpose, authorizing manager, and receiving site cost center.
  • Review the restricted fund transfer request to determine compliance with donor intent for the restricted fund identified to be used. Document journal entries to satisfy sound accounting procedures and meet the requirements and standards of internal and external auditors.
  • Assist with AAHF monthly financial reporting, supporting AAHF Finance Manager responsibilities in the monthly and annual financial close processes. Preparation and analysis of AAHF financial information. Preparation or review of schedules and work papers for AAHF’s financial statements including investment income, donation revenues, operating expenses, prepaid expenses, pledge balances, pledge reserves, stock gifts, etc. Reconcile and analyze AAHF’s pledge receivables, estate receivables and interest in trust receivables.
  • Prepare other draft journal entries (for review and release by the Accounting Operation’s team) to ensure the accurate and timely recording and reporting of AAHF’s accounting activities. Review restricted and unrestricted funds to discover and correct errors. Prepare accurate, adequately supported, and well-referenced standard, adjusting, and recurring journal entries to ensure an accurate general ledger. Prepare reconciliation worksheets and other analyses to identify and justify journal entries to the accounting records. Implement the opening and closing of restricted funds. Download fundraising system (sub-ledger) data for preparation of prepare journal entries into the AAH general ledger. Review AAHF operating and other activity to ensure accuracy.
  • Provide financial analysis for benchmarking, restricted fund reviews and various requests. Gather, analyze and review data for benchmarking AAHF operations. Complete benchmarking and other surveys for fund-raising revenues and operating expenses. Complete Site Team requests.
  • Create reports in various formats to detail and summarize the accounting activity of AAHF restricted funds for use by AAHF leadership, fund administrators and staff. Obtain and analyze complex reports of fundraising activity from AAHF’s donor database. Review with fund administrators the accounting activity of funds and answer questions as to the sources and types of fund accounting activity. Assist fund administrators in requesting fund transfers and other aspects of fund administration policy/procedures. Review with fund administrators the activity of funds and answer questions on the sources and meaning of a fund’s activity. Prepare and distribute reports of AAHF funds activity to AAHF and AAH leadership, including operational managers and, financial staff, and system financial staff.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Level of Education: B.S. degree in Finance or Accounting (or equivalent professional experience)
  • Minimum Experience: Typically requires 5 years of related work experience in Finance or Accounting

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong multidisciplinary competence, particularly analytical problem-solving skills to deal quickly with a variety of problems in complex environments
  • Strong negotiating skills with ability to deal confidently and effectively with internal clients at all levels
  • Ability to communicate effectively with site managers
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, which requires strong organizational skills
  • Familiar with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), tax rules and other regulatory requirements affecting fund raising for not-for-profit healthcare systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), Internet research, and use of accounting software
  • Ability to handle confidential information with respect for sensitive nature of the data
  • Ability to operate effectively in a team/matrix environment with demanding customers and challenging issues
  • Flexibility and ability to learn rapidly
  • Strong orientation to customer service
