Project Overview:
Northern Trust is focused on identifying and designing digital experiences that enhance user interactions through a human-centered process. The Senior Visual/UI Designer on the Creative Team in Corporate Marketing is responsible for designing best-in-class digital experiences to support public digital marketing channels including web, social media, and mobile.
Contractor's Role:
The role will be instrumental in ensuring we push our practice to create truly differentiating experiences reflective of Northern Trust’s capabilities and business objectives as well as user needs and behaviors. Uses expertise to provide guidance to others as a project manager or consultant. Requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline and basic knowledge of related job disciplines. Solves complex problems. Works independently; receives minimal guidance. May lead projects or project steps within a broader project or may have accountability for on-going activities or objectives. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Visual Design 70% - User Interface (UI) Design 30%
Experience Level: Level 3 (Senior 5 years)
Qualifications (must haves):
• Excellent communication skills, easily adaptable, exceptionally organized, excellent presentation, problem solving, storytelling and design skills with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus
• Solid proficiency with front end UI technologies (HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, etc.) and current technologies. Expertise of industry-standard software, including Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma, In-Vision, and bring new technology to the table. Experience working with components in AEM – Adobe Experience Manager
• Experience in translating UI/design to development; writing stories and requirements for developers and ensuring smooth-handoff between teams.
• Knowledge of AfterEffects and Infogram a plus
• Excellent design/creative portfolio and online presence expertise
• Highly flexible and adaptable, embraces ambiguity and responds positively to change
• Requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline and basic knowledge of related job disciplines
• Applies best practices and how own area integrates with others

Tasks & Responsibilities:
• Demonstrates strong concepting and creative problem-solving skills for digital experiences and delivers “best in class” creative solutions in the digital and online space.
• Uses analytical and data-driven approach to survey the competitive landscape to ensure the creation of differentiated experiences during moments that matter along user journeys, bringing forth leading edge thinking and processes to our digital design work to push our practice in new directions.
• Creates visual designs within a multidisciplinary team to support Corporate Marketing efforts focusing on visitor goals in public touchpoints such as NorthernTrust.com, social media and marketing campaigns. Executes UI design for new AEM (Adobe Experience Manager) components to enhance the user experience for our public digital properties.
• Works with an open and optimistic culture of experimentation, intellectual curiosity and rapid prototyping using agile methodology for large projects.
• Leads digital initiatives and translates business strategies into design opportunities.
• Shares work in-progress, solicits critical feedback from business partners, and provides productive critique.
• Mentors and advises junior designers and directs their work on digital projects and initiatives.
• Lead creative input sessions, client presentations, status updates and other meetings needed for projects.
• Apply and extend the Northern Trust digital design system appropriately to create innovative functional solutions that meet business and project needs.
• Provide quality assurance of creative deliverables.
• Collaborates with UX lead to enable a balanced, cross-functional perspective, liaising with the business to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity. Ensure the work created aligns with brand guidelines while simultaneously exploring new graphic standards
