Title of Job

HR/Payroll Specialist

Position Description:

This position is responsible for the daily processes related to the human resource and payroll functions at the Emporia production facility. This position reports to the VP of Operations and works closely with all levels of plant management to ensure the smooth operations of the payroll and human resources functions.

Specific Responsibilities/Areas of Accountability

Human Resources

· Ensure all BLT policies related to hiring, discipline and termination of employees are adhered to for all employees of BLT Emporia.

· Recruitment and selection including screening for plant production laborers, supervisors, and support staff.

· Create job descriptions for new positions and update existing as positions change

· Maintain clear written records to ensure compliance with both state and federal guidelines.

· Establishes and maintains standards for employee file documentation as required by state and federal laws and performs regular audits of employee file documentation.

· Provide each new employee with a detailed orientation of all BLT corporate policies and explanation of employee-benefit programs.

· Work Closely with Lenexa personnel to ensure clear and effective communication of all relevant information.

· Organize and manage the performance evaluation process and related compensation administration.

· Achieve goals and objectives that are set out each year by plant management.

· Abide by all company policies including, but not limited to the following: Health and safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human resources policies, and Employee Handbook.

Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and legislation.

Payroll and Employee-Benefits

· Records and maintains employee information such as personal data, I-9’s, benefits, tax data, attendance, performance reviews or evaluations, and termination date and reason.

· Ensure accurate and detailed time records are obtained daily.

· Enter, track, and reconcile all time work with payroll service provider records.

· Track and update all time not worked information, i.e., PTO, FMLA etc.

· Accumulate and summarize all information needed for the bi-weekly processing of corporate payroll.

· Enforce compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.

Safety

· Member of the Safety Committee to assist committee with communication of activities to employees.

· Track incidents and injuries and related reporting to safety committee and management.

Communication:

· Effectively communicate with subordinates, peers, and superior personnel to ensure efficient transfer of needed information among all personnel and all shifts

· Communicate with plant management any needs regarding personnel, or other matters requiring their attention.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Job Requirements

· Mid-level computer skills required.

· Detailed knowledge of all BLT corporate policies.

· Strong communicator, both written and oral.

· Familiar with state and federal HR and pay regulations.

· High level of time management and organizational skills.

Good technical and critical thinking skills.

Education and Experience

· Bachelor’s degree.

· 3-5 years of relevant HR/payroll experience.

SHRM Certification preferred.

Physical Demands

These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is often required to lift up to 20 pounds. If needed, mechanical lifts are available to assist with heavy lifts. The employee is often required to stand and use their hands and fingers. The employee is often required to walk, reach with arms and hands, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Temperature in some of the production areas is controlled; however, temperature on the production floor can range from mid fifty degrees in the winter to over one-hundred degrees in the summer.
