The role you’ll contribute:

This position serves as a patient advocate and works with a diverse group of individuals including families, physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff, assisting with financial and administrative support. The Financial Counselor performs insurance verification, pre-certification, in-house follow-up and discharge, pre-registration, registration and collecting upfront cash for patients into AdventHealth Ottawa in a pleasant and accurate manner. The financial counselor performs his/her duties by assisting and screening patient with the qualifications of the hospital’s financial assistance program. The Financial Counselor performs follow-up on outstanding balances and self-pay accounts. It also takes and processes payments from patients.

The value you’ll bring to the team:

• Obtains eligibility for patients while pre-registering and registering.

• Meets all pre-certification requirements according to insurance specifications.

• Performs all follow-up that is required (copying of ID cards, collection of co-pay and deductible, etc.) in a timely manner.

• Determines the proper financial class and payor codes while establishing the estimated financial responsibility of the patient and insurance company. Communicates to the patient and guarantor the financial policies of the hospital.

• Assesses the need for pre-certification and authorization while following established guidelines for each patient to ensure payment from payors.

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent

• 1 to 2 years of position-related experience

• Mandatory CBLs
