The role you’ll contribute:

Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Oversight of management and maintenance of regulatory and statutory risk management requirements included but not limited to grievances, AHCA surveys, annual risk management report, for all facilities for AdventHealth Orlando facilities under one license (acute care campuses, outpatient centers, free-standing emergency centers, AdventHealth University) with over 2,800 beds with approximately 135,000 admissions, 600,000 ED visits, and 500,000 outpatient visits per year. This role has oversight of the Risk Management Program as defined by FS. 395.0197 and the Central Florida Division, South Region Risk Management plan for the AdventHealth acute care facilities in Polk County - AdventHealth Heart of Florida (193 beds), AdventHealth Lake Wales (160 beds), and Four Corners emergency department

The value you’ll bring to the team:

  • Develop risk and safety strategy at the campus and system level in collaboration with senior risk management and campus leaders, medical staff, clinical leadership, performance improvement, and IP - both at in the inpatient and outpatient environment.
  • Responsible for directing operations related to the Risk Management Program and Risk Management Plan implementation and related patient safety initiatives for assigned areas including but not limited to: utilizing key performance indicators and extending excellence principles to effectively identify and reduce patient harms; maintenance of state, federal and regulatory requirements for risk management, PSQIA, and The Patient’s Right to Know Act; oversight of the event report review, grievance process and good will adjustments; and regulatory reporting requirements for assigned facilities.
  • Oversight for the Risk Management Program development and execution for assigned campuses.
  • Directs Root Cause Analysis and Action/Human Factors Analysis process which identifies system failures and human factors associated with patient safety events and develops patient safety initiatives in collaboration with other departments. Compile and analyze data, communicate results to leadership.
  • Responsible for operations and oversight of:
oRegulatory requirements of the grievance process, annual Risk Management Report, AHCA complaint surveys, and allegations of abuse or sexual misconduct for all inpatient and outpatient facilities.
oPatients’ Rights Patients' Rights Chapter policies and SOPs are annually reviewed, revised by stakeholders, modified and updated accordingly.
oRisk Management education to system such as Bare Facts and New Employee Experience, Ethics
oEthics consults
  • Identify and report potential compensatory events to the Executive Director of Risk Management and claims management team per Adventist Health System policies
  • Develops strategies, in conjunction with the Executive Director, for the development of ongoing Risk Management activities that meet regulatory requirements and administrative objectives
  • Track and trend event data (risk master, claims, PSorg) as an input to the safety and quality annual planning process with recommendations for needed process improvements
  • Serves as a resource and educator for medical staff and clinical teams with regard to risk issues and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead, develop, evaluate, inculcate staff in Safety Culture and proactive risk mitigation.
  • Provides leadership and assistance in the absence of the Executive Director of Risk Management and has the authority to act in the Executive Director’s behalf if necessary.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • MS Office Highly organized, self-motivated, excellent oral and written communication skills to all level of the organization, analytical skill, problem solving, strong negotiation and conflict resolution
  • Knowledge and understanding of state and federal regulations and case law relevant to patient safety and risk management activities, particularly FS 395.0197
  • Ability to research, prepare comprehensive reports, and recommend and implement successful strategies
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical, Healthcare or Business Administration
  • 3 years clinical experience in one of the areas listed below, and 1 year healthcare risk manager
  • OR 5 years healthcare risk management

o Physical therapist
o Speech Pathologist
o Radiology technician
o Ultrasound technician
o Physician assistant

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

  • Active Florida license or certification - as applicable
  • CPHRM or CPPS certification
