GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Activity Director, the Activities Assistant conducts a wide variety of activity programs and assists the Director as needed.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead daily programs such as exercise, games, religious services, musical activities, movies, parties, and crafts.
  • Announce the programs and then assist residents to the area of the activity.
  • Record of attendance is kept for each resident. Individual responses are recorded. Any questions or adverse responses to activity programs are reported to the Activity Director.
  • Decorate for Birthday’s and Dining Room bulletin boards.
  • Make the large calendar and distribute room calendars to residents and other departments.
  • Have good interdepartmental communication in order to plan special events, outings, etc.
  • Set up and clean up supplies and areas for programs.
  • Make photo posters, welcome signs for new residents, and other communicative posters.
  • Assist and motivate residents in constructing their leisure time with individual interests such as: correspondence, mail delivery, reading mail, craft work, reading, and bedside games.
  • Work with individuals who are unable to participate in group programs.
  • Direct volunteers who are assisting with programs.
  • Follow through with pre-arranged activities in the absence of the Director.
  • Follow through with Pet Therapy as directed.
  • Report any needed supplies to the Activity Director.
  • If in case of extended leave of absence, the Assistant under the consultant direction, assumes responsibility as the Director. The Assistant then uses skills in completing Activity Interest forms, assessments, writing plans of care, and progress notes.
  • Reports any change in condition or unusual findings to the Unit Nurse.
  • Attends staff education, training and other required meetings.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required by the Activity Director.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Must be 18 years of age or older

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERED:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant
