Job Summary:

Responsible for compiling itemized home carebills, verifying patient insurance coverage and computing patient insurance benefits.Works closely with the Home Care Intake and Clinical office staff.Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Verifies home care insurance information.
2. Compiles home care bills, completes appropriate forms, and submits claims to proper agencies/insurance companies either by mail or electronically.
3. Contacts patients/insurance companies to collect unpaid insurance claims.
4. Codes patient insurance/demographic information for data entry.
5. Stays informed about changes in Medicare, Medicaid and other third parties.
6. Maintains current patient accounts and addresses in the computer system to avoid loss of claims. Always verifies patient account number.
7. Answers the telephone in a polite manner.Communicates information to the appropriate personnel. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function well in stressful situations
8. Interacts with patients/families in a professional manner.Provides explanations regarding statements, insurance coverage.
9. Treats patients/families with respect; ensures confidentiality of patient records
10. Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
11. Maintains a professional working relationship with insurance companies.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:High school graduate or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:Thorough understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, HMO's, PPO's, private insurance companies.Basic computer knowledge, data entry skills
