Advanced Vascular is a growing, prosperous and busy Interventional Radiology Center with locations in Portland and Eugene. We need PRN nursing coverage generally 1-2 days a month for high volume days, and for vacation and illness coverage.

Job Purpose: Registered nurse who may be in the role of a circulator or recovery room nurse or RN performing conscious IV sedation. Functions include monitoring the procedure in the operating room/Vascular Cath Lab during surgery and assisting by acting as an intermediary between the operating room and the rest of the facility; monitoring patients still under the effects of anesthesia; performing conscious IV sedation.

Job Duties: Shown are a variety of duties intended to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities:

· Ensures that the surgical room is sterile and safe for the patient ensuring that all necessary equipment and instruments are readily available. They also assist the surgical team in gowning up and donning sterile gowns and gloves.

· Prepares the patient for the procedure and handles the preparation for the operating room before the surgery takes place along with continually monitoring patents and staff during its course.

· Prior to the start of the procedure evaluate the patient’s condition, including vitals and reporting any irregularities to the attending surgeon.

· Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.

· Works with a physician to develop the care plan for the patient during the surgery.

· Continues to evaluate the patient’s condition during the procedure and makes changes to the care plan as necessary according to facility policy.

· Works in the operating room outside the sterile field in which the operation takes place and ensures that the sterile field is not compromised during the procedure.

· Records the progress of the operation, accounts for the instruments, handles specimens, helps to care for equipment and helps transfer the patient from the operating room to the recovery room.

· Keeps the surgical area clean and organized for the scrub tech and the physician; removes instruments and sponges as they are used during the procedure. After the procedure inventories and needle counts.

· Additional duties of the nurse may include the responsibility of supervising surgical technicians.

· Provides constant care to patients immediately following surgery and is responsible for delivery of patient care through use of the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) according to facility policy. This may be a time frame anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours until the patient is stable enough to be discharged from the facility.

· Monitors patients when they are still under the effects of anesthesia to include trending vital signs, monitoring the incisional area, providing post anesthesia symptom management with medications as needed and discussing discharge instructions and care with the patient’s escort.

· The recovery room nurse connects the patient to devices such as cardiac monitoring equipment, and to intravenous therapy for fluids and pain medication.

· Ensures that the patient is in a stable condition before discharging them from the facility.

· Make complete chart notes and communicate information in verbal or written form to other nurses and physicians.

· Providing constant care to patients, immediately following surgery. On a regular basis taking the patient’s vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse and temperature.

· Ensures that the patient is breathing properly and administers oxygen when needed. Recovery room nurses must react rapidly to signs of negative physical changes, calling for assistance and beginning cardiopulmonary resuscitation if necessary.

· Observes patients to assess their comfort level, asks patients about their level of pain, and administers pain medications that have been prescribed. He/she notifies the physician if more pain medication appears to be needed. The nurse must be able to use various routes of medication administration.

· Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Skills/Qualifications: Bedside Manner, Infection Control, Nursing Skills, Administering Medication, IV Therapy, Medical Teamwork, Multi-Tasking, Listening, Verbal Communication, Health Promotion and Maintenance. Must have strong attention to detail and physical stamina to handle long, arduous work hours. The ability to be punctual. Strong computer and keyboard skills. Critical Care skills a huge plus!

Education: Licensed, registered nurse (RN) with a current BLS/ACLS/PALS license, critical care experience is desirable, conscious sedation experience/certification is preferred.

Monday - Friday - Days - No weekends, No nights, NO CALL!

Pay: From $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 6 – 10 per week
