JOB SUMMARY

The Emergency Department/Acute Care Technician is a staff position responsible for providing basic technical patient care skills under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). The incumbent works in close collaboration with an assigned RN to provide safe and quality patient care, and is a valued member of the patient care team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Observe patients’ progress to prepare and disseminate reports to Registered Nurse or other medical staff
  • Obtain and record patients' vital signs and collects specimens for lab tests
  • Measure and record patients' intake and output and other measurements in accordance with unit routines, assists patients with range of motion.
  • Assistance with activities of daily living, comfort care and nutritional support.
  • Performance of selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks and procedures as directed.
  • Indirect patient care activities include maintaining a clean safe environment, ensuring adequate inventory of supplies and equipment, and data collection as pertinent to the patient population.
  • Provides assistance in transporting, transferring, lifting, and manual assistance with patient care.
  • Escorting patient to the exam room. Performs and documents general
  • therapeutic/diagnostic measures. Acts as transporter.

Qualifications


REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • CNA Certification required
  • BLS thru American Heart Assoc.
  • 2yrs Acute Care, or Standing ER setting.

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED

CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE

  • CNA Certification
  • BLS thru American Heart Assoc.

KNOWLEDGE SKILS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to document patient care activities using acceptable medical terminology.
  • Skill in transporting various types of patients using different transport modes.
  • Knowledge of common surgical instruments.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull.
