ADULT DAY HEALTH CENTER is Hiring a Driver/Program Aide Near Lynn, MA

TITLE: Driver

REPORTS TO: Program Director

SUMMARY: Transportation of the Center's participants to and from the home to ADHC and other appointments in a safe and courteous manner at all times.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for picking up and dropping off patients to and from the center as well as taking participants to outings, medical appointments etc.
  • Being able to work with the elderly population and manage a route that will accommodate a on demand schedule.
  • Assist participants to and from the van; assist safe seating of participants which includes buckling each patient, ensure that seat belt restraints are properly used
  • Responsible for shopping for the center, this includes all groceries and supplies
  • Secure passenger wheelchairs to restraining devices to stabilize wheelchairs during trip. Be physically able to handle and assist the handicap client in wheelchairs.
  • Assist all other departments in deliveries and pick-up and delivery of other related work items
  • Cleans and services vehicle with fuel, lubricants, and accessories. Report all vehicle repairs, and or any unsafe or hazards situations immediately to supervisor.
  • When discharging participants at their residences in the evening, check that a caregiver is there to receive them; check for safe entry into the residence for participants who are of a self-care status in the community (no caregiver involvement).
  • Maintain a safe and non-disruptive environment in the vehicle during transport of participants at all times.
  • Follow all employee general conduct rules and maintain a positive job attitude. The use of alcohol or drugs during the hours of duties is grounds for immediate dismissal. All other general employee rules apply. Call if late or absent to give sufficient time to find replacement. In addition, both participants and drivers prohibit smoking in the vehicles.
  • Check and maintain vehicle according to the Preventative Maintenance Log, and keep accurate records of such maintenance.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of set procedures regarding emergencies involving vehicle and/or participants. Procedures are to be kept posted in vehicle at all times, and be followed when situation arises. (See EMERGENCY Procedure section)
  • Report to Center Director any major delays or problems, participant behavioral changes and/or unusual incidents that occur during transportation hours as well as all family or caregiver problems or complaints.
  • Report to Center Director any mechanical problems with the vehicle, and be available to deliver vehicle to repair shop if required.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of inclement weather policies regarding hours of operation, and be available for adjusted transportation schedules for inclement weather.
  • Be available, with due notice (one to two weeks in advance) from the Activities Coordinator, to transport participants on field trips to local destinations and assist with supervision of participants at the trip destination.
  • Do not make stops for participants (i.e. stores) except for a supervised bathroom stop.
  • If you encounter a delay during the course of transporting participants either to or from the center, please notify the Center Director at the earliest opportunity, either from a participant’s home, the van telephone or a pay phone within sight of the vehicle.
  • Daily driving of the company insured van is for the sole purpose of transporting participants in a safe and orderly manner. The driver shall assist participants as needed on and off the vehicle in accordance with proper assisting and lifting techniques.
  • The driver shall report to work in a timely manner and call in all absences prior to beginning of a workday so that alternate drivers or forms of transportation for the participants may be arranged.
  • The drivers shall be required to assist the Center Director or help with the activity program as needed or required. (Other duties as deemed necessary by the center director)
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Academic: Must have High School diploma or GED. Must have a current and valid MA Driver’s License with excellent driving record of no accidents or more than one moving violation in three years.
  • Health: Pre-employment clearance by a physician that certifies the employee to be free of infectious disease and/or restrictions that would inhibit performing job related responsibilities
  • Language: Able to read, write and speak English.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Medium Work-Lifting 50lbs maximum with frequent lifting and or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs
