Adoptions from the Heart is Hiring a Remote Adoption Social Worker
Job descriptionSeeking full-time Adoption Social Worker for small Bloomfield, CT office of a non-profit adoption agency. Social workers provide services throughout the state and counsel pregnant women and prospective adoptive parents. Responsibilities include maintaining a caseload of clients, home study evaluations, post-placement visits, options counseling and community outreach. Possible evenings/weekends as needed for on-call.
Salary is based on degree and length of employment. Possibility of hybrid/remote 1 day a week after 3 months. Employees are paid for the week between Christmas-New Years while offices are closed. Only candidates who send resume, cover letter & salary req. will be considered.
Requirements:
BSW required
Min. 2 years child welfare experience
Spanish Speaking is a strong plus
Ability to work occasional weekends and at night, as required for on-call needs
Valid driver's license and availability of automobile
Proficiency in Microsoft Word
Experience with databases, electronic files, and entering case notes
Police, Child Abuse & FBI clearances required
Responsibilities include: Working with and counseling pregnant women, expecting fathers and prospective adoptive parents along with conducting home studies, post-placement visits, and outreach.
Social Work Duties for Pregnant Women and Expecting Fathers:
Provide counseling and support for expecting mothers & fathers considering adoption
Give pregnant people their options including adoption
Share the responsibility of being available on weekends or evenings for an emergency adoption placement
Accompany clients to appointments and counsel with their family, if required
Assist expecting parents in making an adoption plan and select a family
Work with social worker whose family is selected
Arrange meetings between the two parties
Obtain all medical records and background information on pregnant person and their partner
Help both parties formulate an open adoption plan
Complete legal paperwork with attorney
Accompany clients to Court if applicable
Duties with Adoptive Parents:
Educating and evaluating prospective adoptive parents
Conduct and write home study reports
Conduct group educational classes for prospective adoptive parents
Cooperatively conduct pre-placement meetings between birth and adoptive parents
Coordinate placement and discharge of baby from the hospital
Prepare legal documents for placement
Follow up with supervisory visits with family after placement and prepare a report of the visits
Assist with agreement with birth parents post-adoption finalization
Attend Court hearing to finalize adoption
Handle any requests for private adoption assistance from families seeking identified/intermediary adoptions.
Additional Duties:
Attend all required meetings
Represent Agency at conferences and any public event
Running groups such as agency courses and support groups
Review and approve reports of adoption social work independent contractors
Complete monthly outreach
