Description: Stevenson High School, a prestigious five-time recipient of the U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon Award, has also been recognized by the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts as a National School of Distinction for Arts Education. Our Music Department stands out nationally, having been named one of the "12 Model Music Programs" by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). The Music Department at Stevenson encompasses traditional ensemble classes as well as general music courses. We pride ourselves on a longstanding tradition of excellence and maintain a high profile within our school community. Our team-teaching approach spans across Bands, Choirs, and Orchestras. Our curriculum philosophy prioritizes performance and comprehensive musicianship.
Responsibilities: Percussion Masterclasses: conduct weekly or bi-weekly masterclasses with the percussion students during their Band classes Percussion Sectionals: provide instruction for percussionists in each Band class to assist with refining their music for curricular performances as needed Rehearsal Support: provide individual and group support for percussionists in each Instrumental Ensemble Part Assignments: work with Music Directors to assign individual parts for percussion students for each concert cycle Assessments: work with Band Directors to create content for percussion-specific assessments (playing tests, placement auditions). Performance Planning: design percussion instrument set-up diagrams/flow charts and assist students with mallet/stick/beater selections for each concert cycle for each Instrumental Ensemble. Performances: Attend band concerts to oversee the management of percussion equipment before and after the performances. Support percussion equipment, instruction, and performance needs throughout the Music Department Administrative tasks, such as percussion inventory, repair, orders, etc.
Requirements: Music Education or Performance degrees Strong percussion performance and pedagogical skills Strong executive functioning, project management, and organizational skills Proficiency in current music-related technologies, record-keeping, and communication A positive and collaborative working style with colleagues, students, parents, and administration Additional Stipend Opportunities will be available
