Adjoin is Hiring a Chief Financial Officer Near San Diego, CA

Adjoin is seeking an individual who has strong leadership, strategic, and communications skills as related to finance, investment, and general administration to be our next CFO. A successful candidate has operational experience and should have the ability to assess the business implications of the Adjoin’s operations; to design and execute approaches to meet strategic business opportunities and challenges; and to build support for proposed approaches at the Board level and externally. The candidate also understands, or is willing to develop an understanding of, the unique complexities of the Adjoin’s business model. The CFO needs to possess strong analytical skills and have practical experience and expertise in financial and accounting policies, practices, and systems. A successful candidate has a demonstrated track record in meeting compliance and best-practice standards for finance, investment, and/or accounting. The candidate can assess and propose strategies to manage organizational risk. The CFO is also familiar with—or is willing to learn about—a variety of charitable-giving products and approaches.

Adjoin’s CFO is a team player, an active problem-solver, and open to new ideas. A successful candidate can provide both strategic and operational support to the CEO, COO and works collaboratively with other Directors to ensure coordinated management across the Adjoin’s operational areas. Adjoin’s CFO is risk aware but not risk averse and has strongly values diversity, equity, and inclusion and works to embed these values across the financial and administrative functions of the organization. The CFO has a bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred. A successful candidate has ten or more years, or the equivalent, of directly relevant work experience at a Controller, Director or Chief Financial Officer level in the field of finance. Proficiency with financial-management and accounting software systems and programs is required. Understanding of GAAP-basis accounting required.

Responsibilities & Duties

Financial Management

  • Develop and implement financial strategies that support the organization’s mission and goals
  • Manage and oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records, including the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and other financial systems
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the CEO and Board of Directors, providing analysis and recommendations as needed
  • Ensure compliance with all financial reporting and regulatory requirements, including tax filings, audits, and other reporting requirements
  • Oversee the Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Gift Processing functions to ensure best practice and compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory standards
  • Oversees all payroll functions, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll, compliance with relevant regulations, and maintenance of payroll records.
  • Collaborates with the HR department to address payroll-related issues and implements best practices to streamline payroll operations and improve overall efficiency.
  • Attend to requirements of all funding contracts
  • Manage relationships with external partners, including banks, auditors, and other financial service providers
  • Manage fleet vehicle leases, oversee property & casualty insurance renewals and claims, and actively participate in health insurance renewals and workers' compensation claims.
  • Evaluate, execute, and oversee strategies for maintaining adequate capacity to achieve revenue goals.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Develop and oversee the annual budgeting process, working closely with Chief Operations Officer (COO), directors, program managers and other stakeholders to develop realistic and achievable budgets
  • Monitor actual performance against budget and provide regular updates and analysis to the CEO, COO, leadership team and Board of Directors
  • Develop and maintain financial forecasting models that support long-term financial planning and decision-making

Board Relations and Reporting

  • Report on the financial performance of the organization to the Board of Directors, including regular updates on budget performance, forecasts, and financial risks and opportunities
  • Collaborate with the CEO and Board of Directors to develop and implement financial policies and procedures that align with the organization’s values and strategic goals
  • Lead the Finance Committee, collaborating with other committee members to provide strategic financial guidance and support to the organization
  • Represent the organization at internal and external events and meetings, providing financial guidance and support as needed

Strategic Planning and Leadership

  • Work closely with the CEO, COO, and senior leaders to develop and implement strategic plans and goals that support the organization’s mission and vision
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development
  • Collaborate with COO and other senior leaders to develop and implement strategies that support the organization’s mission and goal
  • Develop, implement, and revise risk management and technology plans in partnership with COO.
  • Visit organization’s various geographic locations to provide visibility, access and support as needed and required.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Engage with external stakeholders to develop and explore potential partnerships or funding opportunities.
  • Actively participate in leadership roles within associations and leadership and/or advocacy groups.
  • Attend networking events and conferences as required and needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Tax Filing and Compliance

  • Lead the Audit Committee, collaborating with other committee members to provide strategic financial guidance and support to the organization
  • Oversee all tax filings and compliance requirements, ensuring that the organization is in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations
  • Manage relationships with external auditors and other financial service providers to ensure compliance with all reporting and regulatory requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, with at least 5 years in a nonprofit organization
  • Proven track record of successful financial management, including experience developing and implementing financial strategies, managing budgets, and overseeing financial reporting and compliance
  • Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience building and leading high-performing teams
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders
  • Experience in a work environment requiring collaboration and negotiation on organization-wide decisions.
  • Ability to professionally respond to inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies, or business community members.
  • Ability to effectively present information to associates, top management and the Board of Directors.
  • Ability to coordinate a combination of diverse job functions to integrate professional and technical department goals and objectives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA and/or CPA and/or CMA
  • Proven work experience as a CFO, preferably in a nonprofit organization
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis, risk management and forecasting methods
  • Hands-on experience with accounting and financial management software
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies, and guiding investment in people and systems
  • Tech-savvy, experienced in collaborating with IT to enhance efficiency in dynamic environments
  • Ability to explain financial terms in simple language

Position Requirements

  • Ability to travel within local community and throughout the state in which services are provided a minimum of 50% of the time.
  • Ability to travel in and outside the state 10% of the time to attend meetings, trainings, conferences, etc.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen, background and credit check.
  • Physical evaluation as required by job requirements which may include a TB test and/or a lift and transfer test.
  • Acceptable DMV record.
