Yard Operator
Forklift Operators use Telehandler Forklift to perform tasks involving the moving of material/goods from one place to another.
Duties Summary/Responsibilities:
- Perform tasks involving the moving of material/goods from one place to another, as instructed, using a sit-down gas powered forklift
- Load and unload supplies (consumables, nuts and bolts, etc.) to the required area, and/or loading goods onto and off a truck, as instructed
- Remove material/supplies to the warehouse storage area or the plant store
- Inspect the equipment and accessories before use to make sure it is in good order and condition at all times
- Follow the OSHA safety checklist to make sure brakes, lights, steering, the horn, and other parts of the forklift are working properly
- Perform tasks using the overhead travelling cranes and/or hoisting gears, when required
- Any other tasks as required and/or special projects as needed
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Must have excellent awareness and attention to safety
- Strong Hand-eye coordination and quick reflexes
- Proficient with driving varying types of construction equipment or applicable vehicles
- Good judgement to estimate load weights/heights; safely and adequately operate/drive the forklift within the equipment’s load/tolerance limits, specific requirements and principal features
- Basic mathematical and mechanical knowledge
- Know how to safely and properly operate overhead cranes
- Ability to work autonomously
- High Attention to detail
- Ability to display critical analysis/good judgment
- Dynamic and motivated in work approach
- Flexibility in adapting to new work
Physical Requirement:
Must have the ability to perform the following activities and sustain for varying lengths of time: stand, walk, drag, pull, push, lift, lower, climb stairs or ladders, balance, bend, twist, squat, kneel and stoop on a constant basis, and work in an elevated location occasionally. Use hands to reach outside of power zone constantly. Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Ability to perform work in variable climate conditions such as but not limited to, hot, cold, dusty, noisy etc.
