Marine Electrician Job Description

APS Marine is seeking a qualified Marine Electrician to perform Marine Electrical (AC & DC) installations, and maintenance on high performance Power boats, RHIB’s and other Vessels.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Self-starter able to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment with multiple project and contracts.
  • Read, interpret, and apply Statements of Work, commercial literature, owner’s manual, technical manuals, project specifications, Navy and commercial schematics, blueprints, and apply information to systems for requiring installation and repair.
  • Work with 12 & 24 V DC, and 120/220 VAC systems; proficient at trouble shooting, installing, and repairing; with the ability to forward think.
  • Effectively communicate in writing or verbally as appropriate, electrical issues, discrepancies in schematics and other issues encountered.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems, components using sound electrical principles, theory, and electrical testing equipment. Diagnose faulty systems, apparatus, or parts, using equipment and hand tools.
  • Proficient in the use of electrical and electronic test equipment.
  • Work on a variety of electrical systems, electrical components, electronics, motors, and switches.
  • Work on small craft with restricted access to systems and components to complete the task.

Requirements:

  • ABYC Marine Electrical Certification preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with marine electrical/ electronical components; systems or equivalent.
  • Experience with electrical and electronic installations on Navy small boats, commercial yachts, or fishing craft.
  • Knowledge of engine and vessel control systems. Examples: Vessel View, Smart Craft, Furuno systems, Command Link, etc.
  • Possess a thorough understanding and practical application of Electrical Theory, OHMs laws, and other electrical fundamentals and the ability to apply theory to tasks and projects.
  • Possess sound electrical and electronic troubleshooting skills-demonstrate ability to methodically troubleshoot electronic systems and components.
  • Responsible use of hand tools, power tools, ladders, wiring tools, shop equipment, and other yard equipment. Work from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs to put in, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job including standing, crouching, climbing, balancing, and lifting/moving up to 50lb loads.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment that can include work near moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions, occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions, high noise environment.
  • Train entry level personnel to assist in electrical system removal and installation.
  • Occasional over-time may be required.
  • Valid California Driver’s License
  • Eligible for a Navy Installation DBIDS
