The Histology Laboratory Aide provides support for the Pathology department including labeling, retrieving, storing and distributing slides. This position assists with processing send out requests for Pathology information, slides and blocks. This position tracks sent out material(s) and requests the return after the set barrowed time is exceeded. This position rotates and discards stored materials to comply with CAP regulations. This position requires the ability to properly answer Pathology phone requests, contact other physicians, and dispatch Pathologists to special procedures.

Required Educational Degree:
High School Diploma or GED

Job Essential Functions:

1. Orders and distributes office inventory to ensure the daily availability of materials for the operation of the department.
2. Assists with the daily distribution of workload for all pathologists and insures delivery within a timely and efficient manner.
3. Retrieves material for tumor board presentations, send out requests, quality review, and additional testing.
4. Stores, rotates and discards slide and blocks per the requirements set by the department policies and CAP regulations.
5. Professionally manages the reception process including: proper phone etiquette, timely and accurate handling of messages and answering general inquires, contact other physicians when requested by the Pathologist, and transfer of phone calls to the Pathologist as necessary.
6. Properly dispatch the Pathologist(s) when needed for special procedures
7. Process and send out requests, track sent material, and request overdue return of material(s) for the Pathology department.
