Job Summary:

The Ädelbrook Lead Support Staff provides leadership, guidance, coaching, and training for the Teacher Support Specialists (TSS), and Instructional Support Assistants in collaboration with the classroom teacher. The Lead Support Staff works collaboratively with the Director of Education, Teachers, Behaviorist and other staff members. This is a full-time, non-exempt position. This position reports directly to the Director of Education.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides leadership, guidance, coaching, and training of the Teacher Support Specialists (TSS), and Instructional Support Assistant (ISA).
  • With the Director of Education interviews prospective candidates for the following school roles; TSS, and ISA. The Interim Lead Support Staff also develops a shadowing schedule for new employees.
  • Assists the Director of Education and classroom teacher in the development, implementation and monitoring of a healthy therapeutic milieu and Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS) system in the academy that is conducive to effective, therapeutic treatment as well as the growth and progress of all students.
  • Ensures adequate staff coverage; adjusts coverage as needed for illness, late arrivals and delays in student transportation in the afternoon. Physically covers classrooms when in need of staffing.
  • Provides ongoing communication and oversight for all per-diem staff serving as TSS or ISA.
  • Provides oversight of Clock system, PTO and STO requests. Enters all fingerprints and Makes Teachers and Directors aware of any tardiness, absences and changes to clock.
  • Works with the TSS’s and ISA’s to handle crises that develop. Executes all critical incident reports in a timely fashion, following established agency procedures.
  • Assists in training in the proper writing of critical incident reports and coaches' staff in how to procedures.
  • Alerts BCBA and Director of students with high incidents of seclusion and restraint so a four and twenty PPT can be planned.
  • Input and organize data (behavioral, academic, CT State incident reporting) as directed by Director of Education or Director of Behavioral Services.
  • Oversees transitions of arrival and dismissal of students.
  • Provides support, in the classrooms, to the Teachers.
  • Meets weekly for supervision with the Director of Education.
  • Uses Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), PBIS and PMT to ensure a safe, therapeutic environment in the school. This may involve physical intervention through protective holds, defined by SDE as restraints, (utilizing PMT) and/or emergency seclusion, in accordance with CT state regulations as well as agency procedure if a young person is attempting to hurt her/himself or another human being.
  • Supports and follows agency policies and procedures.
  • Attends all mandatory in-service training to maintain certification in PMT, CPR and First Aid and other models when required. Attends all other applicable program training in as per agency requirements.
  • Displays exemplary role modeling on the job and when in contact with the students being served.
  • Performs all other duties as requested by the Director of Education.

Education, Experience and Other Qualifications:

BS/BA degree in Psychology, Social work, Education, or a closely related area. At least five years’ experience working with students with academic and behavioral challenges, preferably in a setting which provides education and treatment for young people with disabilities. Candidates must have demonstrated leadership skills. The ability to work with students and other employees from diverse educational, ethnic, economic and religious backgrounds is required.
