Phlebotomist

This is a Contract, On-Call, Part-Time opportunity. Hours can be up to 12 hours per week (maybe more). This opportunity will be responsible for:

  • Collect, process, and ship any bodily samples such as blood and urine as required per protocol in compliance with Adaptive Research SOPs, IATA guidelines and laboratory guidelines.
  • Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating and noting times of collection and maintaining daily tallies of the collections performed.
  • Verifies patient identification and explains sampling procedures to patients.
  • Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following Adaptive Research procedures and observing isolation procedures.
  • Ensure scientific integrity of data and protect the rights, safety, and well-being of research participants.
  • Maintains quality results by following procedures and testing schedules, recording results in the quality control log and identifying and reporting needed changes.
  • Maintains safe, secure and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  • Reassures patients who may be nervous about sampling procedures, trials and applies dressings to wounds that may be created by blood draws.
  • Updates and maintains trial patient records.
  • Maintains an organized and clean work space.
  • Navigate the resources and workflow within the healthcare and clinical research environment to ensure seamless care for the clinical trial participant, to engage investigators in research daily and to promote clinical research within the healthcare system.
  • Coordinate research participant visits and study related procedures according to study protocol windows and study team schedules, which may involve handling travel logistics for research participants; ensure reminder communications (phone, text, or email) are sent to promote research participant show rate and compliance; identify and outreach to prospective patients; prepare study visit materials such as lab kits, study forms and diaries for participant visits.
  • Conduct clinical research study visits/procedures per protocol requirements. This may require obtaining vital signs, height, weight, EKG’s, spirometry, medical history, medications, adverse events, and labs as well as administering questionnaires and diaries.
  • Monitor and report adverse events, serious adverse events and protocol deviations to the investigator, Sponsor, Adaptive Research Vice President, Clinical Affairs and Therapeutic Head, and IRB in compliance with Adaptive Research SOPs.
  • Complete and maintain case report forms (paper or electronic) and answer queries regarding study data per FDA regulations, clinical trial agreement and protocol requirements.
  • Prepare and participate in routine monitoring visits, internal and external audits, and inspections.
  • Assist with additional projects as requested by the Project Manager.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or its equivalency.

Professional Licensure/Certifications

  • Requires phlebotomy certification in the State of California, with a minimum of a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I)

Experience

  • Requires a minimum of 2 years of related phlebotomist experience.
  • As outlined by the State of California, phlebotomy experience must include blood collection for testing purposes from patients of varying ages, including pediatric and geriatric and of varying health and obesity status.
  • Experience in GCPs (Good Clinical Practices). Certification preferred.
  • Experience with IATA relating to pharmaceutical and healthcare.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Requires excellent communication, organization, analytical and computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and related database applications.
  • Requires a valid California Driver’s License in good standing, along with reliable transportation.

Working Conditions:

  • Potential exposure to infectious diseases, blood and bodily fluids.
  • This position will require working on-site at client(s).

Work Hours:

  • On-Call, Part-Time; not to exceed ten (10) hours per week (or 40 hours per month).
  • Additional hours would require prior written approval.

Travel

  • Local travel to and from clients.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
