Adaptec Solutions is Hiring a Lead Field Installation Technician Near Rochester, NY

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Project Manager for a particular project, this position is an important role in leading and developing the technical skillsets of our material handling installation technicians. The position is primarily responsible for developing installation technicians, providing technical support, and leading projects and complex technical work on-site at customers. Secondarily, this position will support overall Capital Installation project logistics and enterprise fleet needs.

It is expected that the incumbent will be a strong team player and will work collaboratively with all employees. This position has leadership responsibilities for the following personnel:

  • Field Installation Technicians as assigned

This role is expected to serve as a working lead, demonstrating best practices in industrial maintenance and guiding junior technicians as required to ensure broad adoption of best practices.

This role will be the default lead on any job where there are multiple technicians assigned, serving as the primary point of contact for the customer and Project Manager for the job and managing the proper completion of work reports.

This role has responsibility for ensuring the customer experience is second to none by accurately completing all field reports, communicating with the customer before and after each job, ensuring any obstacles identified during on-site work are communicated with the customer (especially if delays are expected in completing expected work tasks), and ensuring adherence to all safety requirements.

This position will work closely with the Project Manager and Training Manager to ensure that the technical skills the service team members need are aligned with the overall direction of the service organization and broader company.

Responsible for installation of conveyors, robots, and other material handling equipment as required. Secondarily responsible for tool and equipment procurement, assembly and shipping to job sites as well as fleet management services including repairs, licensure and monitoring.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Independently and efficiently track a conveyor belt.
  • Independently troubleshoot issues, identify needed parts, identify and perform corrective action on material handling equipment.
  • Carry out overall conveyor installation on schedule and as required.
  • Use a multi-meter to check fuses, troubleshoot contactors, verify power, troubleshoot 3-phase motors.
  • Be able to work 40-60 hour per week or more if needed.
  • Act professionally with dignity and respect.
  • Communicate clearly and precisely with customers and any other personnel.
  • Work independently and conscientiously to complete a job.
  • Work within the safety guidelines of customers, Adaptec Solutions and OSHA; always operating by the most stringent of safety protocol.
  • Perform installations on material handling equipment independently.
  • Appropriately document all work performed (i.e., hours, rentals and punchlist forms).
  • Perform mechanical work including fabricating, welding, and painting.
  • Provide telephone support to assigned technicians.
  • Other duties assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • Five to Eight (5-8) years of millwright/ material handling maintenance experience
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics and detailed repair drawings related to material handling equipment.
  • Strong mechanical & electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Must possess strong welding skills.
  • Must have valid driver’s license, a clean driving record and ability to comply with DOT regulations.

SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE JOB

  • Requires overnight travel for installation.
  • Complete field service reports and expense reports immediately
  • Must be a team player.
  • Attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Must own basic hand tools.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and data files.
  • Written and oral communication skills to interact with diverse internal and external groups.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and industry related technical instructions and specifications in mathematical or diagram form to understand and define product requirements.
  • Strong technical aptitude in the material handling industry
  • Strong working knowledge of three-phase electrical systems and motor controls
  • Strong working knowledge of conveyors, cranes, stretch wrappers and other material handling equipment.
  • Strong understanding of AWS standards for welding
  • Strong working knowledge of current company, OSHA and customer safety requirements
  • Ability to lead small and large groups of technicians on complex projects.
  • Ability to read plans, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Demonstrates organizational and project management skills, including ability to set and manage multiple priorities, and to set and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Computer knowledge including word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, and generating reports using standard software applications.

MENTAL AND VISUAL REQUIREMENTS

High mental and visual attention is required for planning difficult work methods and sequences to obtain size, shape or physical qualities of product. Extremely close visual attention is required (such as making delicate adjustments to control high-speed operations). Very precise muscular control and/or extremely close visual attention required for making delicate adjustments to control mechanical operations.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, sit, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, use fingers, grasp, feel, talk, and hear. Ability to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Most work is performed in a typical manufacturing/production environment. However, employee could be subject to adverse environmental conditions such as: noise, vibration, hazards (moving mechanical parts), fumes, odors, dust, oils and weather elements.

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED

This position requires the regular use of conveyor specialty tools, ability to use computer/tablet, installation equipment, phone and copier. Daily use of hand tools, measurement instruments (such as indicators, calipers, micrometers, tape measure, scales, etc.). Daily use of power tools to include drills, grinders, welders, impact wrenches and more. Use/operation of heavy equipment such as forklifts, aerial and scissor lifts.

MEASUREMENTS OF SUCCESS

  • Assist PM in delivering projects on schedule and under our budgeted costs
  • Assist PM in ensure that our staffing, rentals and consumables meet the current budget of projects
  • Build relationships at key customers (UPS, MHS, FMH, DCI, DCS, PRIMUS) to position us as a service partner where we are proactively communicating on projects and our resources to better forecast our business levels for capacity planning.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $25.00 - $30.00 per hour, plus a daily per-diem. The salary range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Adaptec Solutions considers factors including, but not limited to experience and geographic location.
