Responsibilities & Qualifications

We are seeking a self-motivated individual to be a part of the Mill team at our South Feedlot, located in Broken Bow, Nebraska. This is a great opportunity for a mechanically-inclined individual with an interest in overseeing the day-to-day operations of a facility. The schedule for this position is a rotating 4 days on and then 4 days off.

This person will be responsible for:

  • Setting and starting up the mill/flaker.

  • Performing quality control checks on mill and flaker items, such as dry matters, flake weights, water, and High Moisture Corn (HMC) whole kernel counts, making any necessary adjustments needed, and contacting the manager if major adjustments are necessary.

  • Utilizing the mill computer/software to schedule loads.

  • Ensuring all safety processes are properly followed.

  • Troubleshooting and monitoring software programs.

  • Maintaining and inventorying all micro ingredients and dry corn.

  • Following all applicable FDA rules and guidelines and completing all proper documentation with integrity.

  • Completing all necessary documentation and work orders, in addition to quality and production logs and end of day paperwork.

  • Assisting with project planning and execution as needed.

  • Troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, cylinders,

  • and plumbing.

  • Conducting mill maintenance and repairs to minimize mill downtime, while also driving production and efficiency.

  • Ensuring all mill and flaker inspections and greasing/lubrications are completed on time.

  • Organizing and maintaining the mill and flaker inventories so parts and supplies are on hand.

  • Responsible for general mill housekeeping, cleanliness, and general upkeep to whole area, including but not limited to sweeping, scooping, washing of facilities and equipment.

  • Maintaining feeding ingredients by cleaning up loose feed and operating equipment safely.

  • Assisting with all delivered commodities (unloading and loading). 

  • Individual will learn the operation of the mill pay loader and operate as needed.

Ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:

  • Computer experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and control systems are beneficial.

  • Experience or interest in mill and flaker operations.

  • Mechanical interest and aptitude are beneficial.

  • Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and water systems experience are beneficial.

  • Welding experience, knowledge, and skills are beneficial.

  • Commitment to safety and quality culture.

  • Ability to use analytical techniques for problem solving, coordination, and decision making.

  • High attention to detail and ability to multi-task.

  • Driven, organized and punctual.

  • Individual must be team oriented.

  • Strong verbal and written communication.

Requirements & Compensation


This position requires:

  • Individual must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.

  • Individual must be able to perform maintenance and inspections at the top of grain bins/elevators and flaker, of elevations up to approximately 100ft

  • Exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally; 25-50 pounds of force frequently; 10-20 pounds of force constantly. Standing and sitting frequently; walking, carrying, and lifting/lowering, pushing/pulling, bending, twisting, climbing, crawling, stairs, reaching/handling/grasping, and kneeling/crouching occasionally.

Compensation Details:

  • Starting Wage: $20.00 to $25.00 per hour.

  • $2,500 Hiring Bonus
