What Success Looks Like In This Job

The Sustainability Program Administrator will perform professional, technical, innovative, and analytical work to advance the County’s plans for a sustainable future. The Sustainability Program Administrator will facilitate the coordination of complex projects and is responsible for tracking and reporting progress toward achievement of the County’s sustainability goals.

Examples of Duties for Success

  • Develop and implement strategies from Adams County’s Sustainability Plan, which focuses on air quality, energy, healthy & resilient employees, land, transportation, water and waste.
  • Perform analysis of sustainability related projects and initiatives, including policy options, financial impacts and scientific data.
  • Establish project schedules, design and manage processes
  • Prepare and present clear and concise presentations to the Board of County Commissioners
  • Prepare quarterly and annual County Sustainability reports.
  • Identify potential partnerships with partner agencies and/or public-private partnerships to leverage resources while achieving goals.
  • Prepare detailed analysis of proposed investments, strategies and progress reports indicating progress towards goals, cost savings and return on investments.
  • Support all County departments with the development of sustainability-related policies and programs.
  • Provide support on sustainability capital projects (i.e. electric vehicle charging stations, solar farms, etc)
  • Participates in the development and management of the sustainability budget.
  • Identify sustainability grant opportunities and submit grant applications and required reports.
  • Track sustainability-related data for County’s performance measures and progress in meeting sustainability goals.
  • Provide a high level of customer service to stakeholders on all of the County’s sustainability efforts
  • Develop and manage communications and create opportunities for feedback of programs and policy recommendations.
  • Create and organize events and/or campaigns to promote the County’s sustainability initiatives.
  • Represent the County on various boards and committees as assigned.
  • Work effectively to collaborate with County Leadership and staff.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications for Success

  • Strong knowledge of sustainability programs, practices, tools, and strategies.
  • Strong analytical capacity, including advanced MS Office skills
  • Strong ability to effectively build relationships and work collaboratively with a broad range of individuals.
  • Strong Ability to measure and track metrics essential for reporting to key management staff and the public
  • Ability to present oral presentations covering sustainability issues to staff, leadership , citizens and other county stakeholders
  • Ability to create, implement, measure, verify, and communicate county sustainability initiatives to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to forecast and analyze cost savings and return on investments relating to sustainability.
  • Knowledge of public policy development processes and practices.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of data collection, research and report preparation
  • Knowledge of methods of administrative, organizational, statistical and procedural analysis
  • Ability to develop, organize, coordinate and document sustainability projects and studies.
  • Ability to perform policy and technical analysis and make recommendations.
  • Ability to organize and conduct projects independently.
  • Work independently but also be an active, engaged team member
  • Ability to interact effectively with County Leadership, staff, and public
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

More Qualifications for Success

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:

  • Five (5) years of professional experience in Sustainability Program/Project Management or a closely related field.
  • Experience working with local government agencies is strongly preferred.
Education and Training:
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business, environmental science, sustainability, planning or a closely related field.
  • A master’s degree may substitute for 3 years’ professional experience.
  • Experience may substitute for a degree on a year-for-year basis.
License and/or certification: Possession of a valid Colorado Driver’s License with no restrictions
Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check.
