Position Details

We are hiring a passionate and creative Reading Teacher at the Philadelphia Job Corps Center to provide students with instruction and training leading to completion of High School Diploma or GED. The Teacher will develop individual achievement plans and academic goals that result in improvements in student numeracy skills. Our High School Diploma Teachers enhance student learning and success by working collaboratively with Trade Instructors to translate classroom lessons into real-world applications. Responsibilities include: 

• Provide students with academic training leading to GED/HSD completion and improved literacy skills. 
• Provide students with comprehensive and individualized case management that ensures student progress, achievement and completion of the Job Corps program.
• Ensure classroom is well organized and conducive to student learning.
• Hold students accountable for following Center's dress code/behavioral standards of conduct.

Schedule: Monday to Friday 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM
No assignments to grade after school. Students are expected to complete all work assignments during the school day. 
Classroom Size: 18:1 student to teacher ratio but not more than 25:1 for when there is a vacant teacher position in the department. 
This is a year-round position. We are closed for 11 federal holidays and staff accrue two weeks of vacation and about 10 days of sick leave per year.

The Philadelphia Job Corps Center is located in South Philadelphia and is accessible by public transit. The Center provides students with opportunity to earn their High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED), and hands-on training in the following areas: Certified Nurse Assistant, Clinical Medical Assistant, EMT, Patient Care Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Culinary Arts, and Facilities Maintenance.

Qualifications

A valid in-state teaching certificate or waiver required.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school required.
