PAY RATE: $29.04/HR

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for overseeing the Stormwater Aquatics team for the Streets & Stormwater Department. This position assigns work inspects activities and supervises a crew responsible for the maintenance activities of the city-maintained ponds, canals, ditches, and appurtenances. Many activities of this position are regulated under DEP/EPC guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

  • Supervises activities of the Stormwater Aquatics team.
  • This position assigns work, inspects activities, and supervises a crew responsible for the maintenance activities of the city-maintained ponds canals, waterways, and appurtenances.
  • Reports directly to Streets and Stormwater Director and facilitates all aquatic related activities by planning, preparing, maintaining, monitoring, and reporting operational activities
  • Documents and reports maintenance activities, inspections, and schedules
  • Assigns, allocates, supervises, and participates in the tasks and work of Aquatics Division maintained by Plant City Stormwater Department.
  • Projects budgetary and equipment needs for department as related to aquatic maintenance and activities
  • Tracks the performance of the crews and direct reports monitors activities and preforms evaluations
  • Conducts interviewing of potential employees, and internal applicants and makes recommendations to Director
  • Provides safety and job-related training to direct reports and Streets and Stormwater employees
  • Support inner department functions, and City related activities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to inspect and direct activities as related to Streets and Stormwater.
  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere and support the City’s core values.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to make logical decisions based on training and experience.
  • Ability to operate a computer and Microsoft products.
  • Ability to interact with various levels of management and the public courteously and tactfully.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.
  • Ability to plan, organize and supervisor the work of others.
  • Ability to plan out maintenance activities, spill cleanup, storm preparation, and direct such activities.
  • Ability to change focus and jobs as needed to support the demands of the greater department priorities.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office to include excel, word, and power point
  • Documented management skills to include job forecasting, budgets, and program developing
  • Ability to inspect and direct activities as related to stormwater
  • Ability to follow directives and ensure work is performed under the DEP/EPC guidelines and supplies information for NPDS reporting.

Education and Experience:

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalent diploma.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in supervision in stormwater, utilities, construction, or other maintenance related field.
  • A combination of education, training and experience may be substituted at the City’s discretion.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • F.S.A level I Stormwater certification (within one year of service)
  • Intermittence of Traffic Certification (within one year of service)
  • Pesticide Applicator License for aquatics and right of way (within 90 days of service)

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises Aquatics Crew of five (5) employees.
