Food Access Support Specialist

Description
ABCD's Mobile Food Pop-Ups program provides food to the community facing food insecurity through a series of monthly mobile food distribution events in the City of Boston. Key Responsibilities
Division Development
Assist in the design of program operations for volunteers and clients.
Client Interfacing
Understand and adhere to grant funding guidelines during program operations.
Conduct client outreach, determine eligibility, and provide program services to eligible clients.
Carry out data entry for enrolling clients in programs, and recording clients services.
Office operations and procedures (e.g. typing, filing, photocopying, faxing and other clerical services).
Food Safety, Transportation and Storage
Conduct inventory of food and record temperature logs at the ABCD Food Hub.
Assist with the handling of food in accordance to food safety guidelines in the ABCD Food Hub, delivery sites, and during Mobile Food Pop-Ups events.
Transport perishable food items, non-perishable food items and supplies to designated program distribution locations.
Store food and equipment appropriately in an organized manner in the Food Hub, vehicles and at the program distribution events.
Adhere to routes and schedules in order to ensure that safe food temperatures for perishable and non-perishable foods are maintained.
Carry, handle, load and unload cases of food at the ABCD Food Hub, Mobile Food Pop-Up events and ABCD neighborhood sites, as able.
Volunteer Training and Outreach
Assist with the training and leading of volunteers to effectively assist with distribution activities.
Conduct volunteer outreach to coordinate program assistance.
Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.
Physical & Environmental Conditions
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
Walking and standing for extended periods of time.
Drive the ABCD Food Van and rented U-Haul to Pop Up locations.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent and up to 12 months of work experience is required.
Possession of a valid driver’s license and a good driving record required.
Ability to obtain a Food Pantry Safety Workshop certification or ServSafe certification within the first six months of employment required.
Experience and knowledge of warehouse operations preferred.
Flexibility, initiative, and ability to work in a team required.
Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse economic and cultural backgrounds.
