Description:
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for mechanical design, testing, and documentation of biotech instrumentation/ scientific instrumentation. Will have responsibilities in the development of new instrumentation and support of existing instrumentation for the biodefense, clinical and life-science markets. Design work will include the design of precision mechanisms and complex assemblies that include machined, molded and sheet-metal components. The engineer is responsible for leading the planning, documentation, prototyping and testing of designs. Will be hands on in prototyping at time.The designs will be done primarily in Solidworks but will also use Solidworks FEA, Comsol and/ or Matlab for simulation and analysis Will work with vendors to get technical updates on manufactured components and troubleshoot issues.Works closely with other team members and multi-discipline teams in the overall product development process. Will work through the entire process from initial concept, through design, testing and fielding on multiple efforts.Will lead the planning, design, build and testing of manufacturing test fixtures to support production of new instrumentation. Supports V&V/ I&T testing campaigns to validate design performance for formal and informal tests.Will sometimes support the systems requirements creation and specification creation for new and existing products.

Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related. Master Degree would substitute years of experience (Master Degree 8 years of experience)8-10 years of experienceSignficant experience in Solidworks development. Experience with GD&T Best Practices and Tolerance Stack Up Analysis. For a great technical match, might consider other relevant 3D design package experience as long as they are willing to learn and work within Solidworks.Experience with manufacturing/ production methods like: Molding, Casting, Injection Molding, Sheet Metal and Machined Components. Work with suppliers for tooling and model parts supplied. Experience with performing dFMEA, risk analysis and FMEAs.Desired experience with electromechanical systems including robotics, mechatronics and precision motion systems.Desired experience with fluidics driven instrument systems.Desired experience with Verification and Validation practices and integration and test of SW/ HW mixed systems with firmware components and moving mechanism based systems.
