Description:
Engineering Technician – Level I
The Engineering Technician I (ET-I) works within specific guidelines and procedures established by analysts, developers, project managers or related professionals in order to collect, build, maintain, modify and use geographic information systems (GIS) databases. May also perform some customer application development and provide data entry, analysis and conversion support. May provide technical capabilities in support of image processing with complex imagery.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Enter data into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) databases using techniques such as coordinate geometry, keyboard entry of tabular data, manual digitizing of maps, scanning or automatic conversion to vectors, and conversion of other sources of digital data.
Coordinate the development of integrated Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or spatial/non-spatial databases.
Prepare graphic representations of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data to include conversion of spatial data between GIS software and hardware platforms.
Interpret aerial/satellite imagery.
Review existing or incoming data for currency, accuracy, usefulness, quality, or completeness of documentation.
Transfer or rescale information from original documents including hardcopy/digital information into GIS environment.
GPS data collection and post-processing.
Education / Experience:
– A minimum of an Associate degree in Geography, GIS, Civil Engineering Technology, Physical Science or related area of study; and a minimum of 2 years of related work experience.
– OR Military Training AND minimum 2 years equivalent work experience.
