Job Profile Summary:
The ROW Field Biologist will undertake various field procedures supporting our Research, Science, and Innovation (RSI) and Integrated Vegetation Management (IVM) programs. The primary function of the ROW Field Biologist will be to conduct field surveys (vegetative, pollinators, etc.) along utility corridors in remote, suburban, or urban environments. This position is travel-based, with overnight stays required at contract locations for periods ranging from several days to several months. This position requires experience in low hazardous conditions (e.g., poisonous plants, biting insects, rugged terrain, inclement weather). The successful candidate will prioritize safety and the collection of quality, reliable data for ACRT’s clients.
Salary Range Transparency: For those residing in New York, the pay range is $24-$26.50/hr. commensurate with experience, plus overtime. Accommodations, meals, and company vehicle provided.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Conduct vegetation surveys
Collect invertebrate samples using a sweep net
Use mapping and GIS software to locate field sites and collect data
Identify pollinators
Identify and delineate wetlands
Follow statistically valid sampling methods
Coordinate with outside partners such as utilities, state environmental and natural resources departments, etc.
Working Conditions
Physical and technical tasks include:
Drive to work site may involve interstate travel
Operate a 4x4 vehicle off road
Field collection of biological data
High Travel (up to 100%), including weekends
Equipment, environmental and safety requirements:
Driving cars, trucks
Walking on uneven ground
Exposure to extremes in temperature, humidity, or wetness
Use of various biological equipment, including sweep net, DBH tape, metric tape, and safety-related equipment such as hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, etc.
Minimum two-year degree in biology, ecology, botany, entomology, environmental science or similar. Four-year degree preferred (equivalent field experience may be accepted in lieu of degree)
Previous travel experience preferred
Required Skills:
Strong plant identification skills
Ability to navigate in back country with a GPS
Ability to work autonomously and under pressure
Ability to effectively communicate in visual, verbal, and written form
Excellent time management, organizational and problem-solving skills
Strong attention to detail, including accurate collection and entry of data
Working knowledge of GIS software, MS Outlook, and Excel
Desirables/Preferred:
Familiarization with organization’s culture of safety preferred
Familiarization with organization’s footprint and work types preferred·

This position has a salary range of $24 to $26.50 an hour. Actual salaries will vary within the range based on various factors including, but not limited to, location, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, performance, operational needs and other considerations permitted by law.
