Ellison Drive Animal Hospital/Potranco Veterinary Clinic are fast paced, continually growing, progressive veterinary hospitals located in far Northwest San Antonio. We are committed to practicing the highest quality veterinary medicine and surgery. We offer preventative medicine, ultrasound, in-house laboratory, digital radiology, dentistry to include digital dental radiographs, soft-tissue and orthopedic surgery, boarding, emergency medicine and client education. We are seeking a highly motivated, independently driven, skilled Veterinary Technician to support our multi doctor practice. Our Veterinary Technicians act as a liaison between our doctors and families we service, providing product and services education, excellent customer service and communication skills. The best Veterinary Technicians are genuinely excited to use their technical and critical thinking skills, yet eager to learn and build on their knowledge to continually improve. They’re patient, empathetic, and passionate with strong communication skills and where problem-solving comes naturally. The target is to provide excellent medical service while following set standards of care, to respond efficient and precisely to patient needs while maintaining direct and professional communication with the families creating the best possible outcome and experience. This position is full time, Monday – Friday, with the occasional rotating weekend shift and holidays, must be flexible.

Responsibilities

• Perform and manage high volume of patients in a multi-doctor practice, being readily available to assist Veterinarian when needed and capable of prioritizing most critical needs first.
• Ensure safety of our patients, clients, and team members by practicing safe animal handling and restraint techniques, following protocols set forth, and maintaining clean, aseptic, and organized workspaces such as treatment, exam rooms, lab, and surgery.
• Identify and assess patients’ medical needs to treat appropriately under the supervision of a veterinarian and within your skill set, always striving to achieve best medicine practices
• Build sustainable relationships and trust with patients, as well as clients through open and interactive communication
• Accurately enter and maintain patient information and other pertinent medical records while maintaining strict confidentiality.
• Ability to handle customer complaints, provide appropriate solutions and alternatives within the time limits; follow up to ensure resolution
• Follow communication procedures, guidelines, and policies
• Go the extra mile to engage and educate customers

Skills

• Has exceptional veterinary technical skills (i.e., venipuncture, radiology, I.V. Catheter placement, administer fluids and medications, drug calculations, treatments, and ability to triage patients)
• Knowledge of basic veterinary practices, procedures, and terminology
• Possess excellent animal handling and restraint skills and has ability to lift patients and stand for long periods of time
• Basic organizational and computer skills, knowledge, and usage of Cornerstone a plus.
• Strong phone contact handling skills and active listening. Ability to accurately and consistently follow instructions when given.
• Customer orientation and ability to adapt/respond to different types of personalities, including team members
• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively
• Able to contribute positively as a part of a team, helping with various tasks as required.
• Demonstrates a strong ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems by translating the issue into a practical solution.
• Track record of over-achieving set goals and expectations
• Minimum high school diploma or equivalency required
